What's the hardest quarry you have hunted?..

Recommended Posts

JD did you have a problem with the dog with livestock that wasn`t on the menu like sheep etc or was it not broken to them any way...I know lads that dont come accross any sort of livestock ever there for no means of breaking them to stock let alone a reason for it...I know people must think if this was the case then a deer dog would chop sheep but this aint the case..My beddy/grey bitch had a roe out of some sheep, the brindle bitch was also steady with sheep but hooked on to one of the pigs on the farm and i had to steady her to stock again yet she had taken a good few deer and stayed steady to livestock yet when she got hold of the pig she thought everything was fair game :hunter:

well, i kid you not...scoob was hunting goats through the flocks of sheep! and i swear its true!!!! i would put money on it that my dog would not .look at a domestic goat...its just like he will never chase a cat in the street, but if he encounters one in the woods the outcoe is often very different....i feel that a "thinking" dog often knows what you want him to hunt....but thats JMHO...good hunting fellas...JD

my dog Tyke won't bother cats in the street either, the neighbours cats walk right upto him when he's laid in the front yard but when out in the field or on the lamp he's a totally different dog ;)

it is slow dis for a few reasons. it takes them a very long to to wind up to that sort of speed they dont hold it for very long at all and they cant turn at that speed. most dogs will sit on 55 kph for quiet some distence too. i know blokes in big paddocks that give there dogs 500 meters slips on roos when there only after one in the mob so it doesnt matter how buggered the dog is after it.

the old smart foxes are a very hard thing for a dog to get its teeth around at times too when they have a fence or something similar to run the dog around
