dymented 2,220
go ask for some ratting permission first and rabbits don't mention a dog till they say yes (if they say yes ask if its ok to use a dog for marking them ) once you got your feet under the table then ask over shooting and lamping use your head tell them lamping will enable you to get more ect 1 Quote Link to post

rolysmate 49
I don"t take the dogs with me and ask for a bit of ferreting permission, I tell them there"ll be me, my mate, ferrets and the little dogs, turning up with the dogs looking as though your expecting to go marching off straight across their fields can be a bit off putting. paulus 26
going to sound daft but many years ago, and i do mean many years ago i gained my first permision after being caught poaching on it, after the initial shouting, swearing and general puffing out of chests things calmed down and we started talking, i even gave him a fag he could see my dogs were no problem and i was only after a few bunnies. He gave me permision to go on there with the dogs and ferrets, that progressed to shooting, within a couple of months i was asked to go onto his brothers farm and the rest is history. i now have as much permision as anyone would ever need and made some good friends over the years. and thats the point years later im still here doing the same thing, how many times do you think farmers have been and asked for permision and promised the earth by people who turn up for about a month and then are never herd from again. 2 Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,165
I wouldn't take the dogs when you go ask, it can be a bit much. Ask for ferreting the rabbits and go from there. You can either knock on his door or try catch him in his field. In the past I've even wrote to them, especially the big farms as they offen don't live near the fields in question, so I write to the site office. All of these have worked in the past. Good luck. artic 595
Just be aware that some of these farms may have syndicates. I would stress to them that you will not get in their way, respect the boundaries, and pick up all your mess and rabbits. Maybe ask if you can work the land at the back end to get your foot in the door. All this helping around the farm does not wash with most of the farmers these days, however if you do get any permision then it would be kind to offer your help at harvest time. Good Luck....oh and don't tell people what you've got. Quote Link to post
