gnasher16 31,602
Exactly 20 years ago to the night Michael Watson suffered his terrible injury against Eubank that nearly took his life. Last night i was privilidged to be at a tribute dinner in London for Michael....to say it was emotional is an understatement......there was a great turn out of boxing folk ......many of them rough tough fighters and ex fighters all with a tear in the eye !.....Michael spoke of his life since his accident in such a positive and sincere way it really was quite moving to hear.....he,s a very religious fella which isnt for everyone but you couldnt help but draw inspiration from him.............one of the good guys. rob190364 2,594
Tragic what happened to both him and Mcclellan......I don't think people realise what bloody good fighters both of them were before their incidents either, Mcclellan was knocking the shit out of Ben in that fight, if Ben wasn't so amazingly resilient it might have been a different outcome. Interesting thing.....both Benn and Eubank both said the same thing last night.......of the 3 of them Michael was the best boxer......and it wasnt sentiment saying it,they meant it....... Simoman 110
I remember the bout well Gnasher, i have a few sporting figures who i found/find inspirational. Randy Couture, the man defied the odds in a tough sport, coming into the game late, Bryan Robson, as a kid watching him as England Captain and finally Ian Botham, again a great cricketer when i was a kid and all his charity work.......
