akton 15
For those looking to go rabbiting just get yourself a working albino or polecat kit take it out and have fun. For those looking to show your ferret or poley champagne coloured was last yrs model the in colour for 2011 is the EU polecat dont leave home without it FFS LADS GET A GRIP Having bred a good working strain of ferrets/polecats for the last 20+ yrs,Why all of a sudden for this darker strain. My personal Reasons against this darker strain 1 it will be very differcult to locate in any undergrowth 2 what type of temperement are you breeding 3 theres no guarantee for the price your paying that it will work any better than the polecats/ferrets that are about already I tend to use albinos in the spring /summer months as they are easier to see when working in cover polecats are regularly used also but I tend to use them in open ground or places were you can see them easier so why the EU type is it just for looks or any other reason let me know lads Iam intrigued to know ??? 1 Quote Link to post

Its just the latest '' must have colour'' some will argue thats its because they make better workers.. but i would bet that most end up in pet homes or simply for showing .. Its no different to the mid 90's when the must have colour was silver, then it was copper. which is basically a sandy colour . most of the fancy names there given are American ideas I dont know anyone who keeps these type of animals that has a bomb proof one.. i havent seen a relaxed one so far , & they bolt off at the slightest noise , i certainly wouldnt call them well rounded animals generally , most i have handled have just froze in my hands . incapable of relaxing if someone has a vid clip of a relaxed one i would love to see it Quote Link to post

All your points are valid. they bring nothing additional to the table that you cant get from a bog standard ferret. they look nice though! I would be probably less likely to get one (taking cost out of it) due to not knowing the temperament if its less domesticated why take on the extra hassle Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
It's mad, folk spend a lot of money and time, breeding a wild poley back down to the level of a decent ferret, rather than just doing some homework and getting a good ferret in the first place. Also most of them are just dark ferrets, i have a genuine FERRET here who is very dark, only light on his face, has a black nose, and is very muscular etc etc etc etc etc, perfect e.u poley, and i have his sandy brother. . . . Do these 'EU Polecats' come with pedigrees? Experts need DNA tests before they can verify whether a wild polecat is a genuine poley or feral ferret. Are people genuinely buying these animals at crazy prices without proof of what they're buying? ..and besides £30 - £70, what the f**k is the difference between these so called EU Polecats & our genuine native polecats that people have kept from time to time. A polecat is a fecking polecat in my eyes... Quote Link to post

And like you said, i would want a DNA test or a captive bred cert etc if i was shelling out 50 notes on a kit. 1 Quote Link to post
