there quite small stocky cattle as opposed to other breeds ive seen.well i guess it makes sense they are bread solely for the table.cheers guys i was just thinking about it and was kinda curious.watched a programme on belgium blues, who were crossed with some other beaast to try and get to the same standard.

its all down to the marbling of the meat, its where a lot of the flavour comes from, if i was rearing a bullock for my own freezer it would be angus or hereford.

with belgiun blues they are so highly rated because of their double muscling... it makes them highly desirable for breeding with freisan cows to produce a decent size carcass for the factory

It also has a lot to do with how the meat is aged. Most supermarket meat is awful. All bright red and not aged. I always get things like beef from a quality butcher.

Yo. Hang 'em high ... and long

I'm surprised you even entertain the premium stuff Lab... icon_eek.gif:laugh:

On another note, my mother in law once went into the local butcher here and enquired about a joint of beef. He told her the price and in her usual Aberdonian way she exclaimed loudly: "Fit? That's awfa dear!"

He replied: "No love, it's off a cow actually..." icon_redface.gif:laugh:
