Dog bites ferret.

Recommended Posts

Having not kept ferrets for 11 years or more,This year i decided i would get a few again. My main problem was always going to be the lurchers though,In the past they were broken as pups and never had a problem. These dogs however were never near ferrets, there work all quarry, and are not afraid to bite or be bitten.

So one bye Ive had them on leads while the ferrets were loose ect,Things were going OK,but yesterday i rushed it a little and decided to let the dog sniff the ferret,It was to early,She picked it up,I was quick and it looks like the ferret is ok,and the dog was told in no uncertain terms that it did wrong.

Basically i f***ed up,but do you think the dog could be trusted again.

Why not use a muzzle until you know it's not going to rag the ferret?

dont know mate, best thing to do is treat the dog as that carnt be trusted with them never leave it with them, if you carnt keep a eye on them dont leave them alone. My dog Bryn is Brill when working with ferrets, he knows that they will bolt rabbits out. even when they come to the top, he leaves well alone  .But if you left him in the garden alone with a ferret, he prob play rough with it, and you never know what he might do.? I know people bring them up toegther pups+ferret thats great  , but it comes down to each dog, some will leave alone, but some might get over excited if left on ther own.

Best thing just dont leave them alone
