BICYCLE ATTACHMENT

Recommended Posts

Me and my mate used to take a skateboard on the leisure centre car park and we'd take it in turns, one stood on skateboard with two dogs pulling us along and the other would run along so they'd chase him....brilliant fun....until the cretin thought it'd be funny to run over a kerb across the grass, I tried to stop by putting one foot down before I got to the kerb but all it did was spin me round and send me rolling along the floor.:laugh::laugh:

Definitely like the look of one of them dog scooters, bloody expensive though!!!!

We use a WalkyDog and you definitely get more control of bike and dog than you can manage with a lead in your hand or wrapped round the handlebars. We use a harness, too, rather than attach the dog by his collar, just in case there is a sudden stop or lunge forward. The WalkyDog does have a quick-release if it's needed.

We found it was best to not run beside the bike in the evenings or early mornings because there's just too much prey about; this particular dog needs a constant speed of about 8-10mph with occasional faster bursts... Too slow and he starts looking about him for things to be distracted by.

Also we walk the dog a bit first so he gets a chance to empty!

how much 1 of these walky

About £25 I think it was. You get two lengths of cord for different sized dogs.

Just to add: you need a bike that has a "normal" downstem - as in with a round profile. If you've got one of the newer types with a flat, oval or oversize downstems, the bracket won't fit unless you can fit it on your seatpost but that would depend on the size of the bike (and dog!).

I hold the lead in my hand with my arm out the side of me and find it easy(ish) to control the dog so he can't turn into the wheels and you can also feel when he's lagging behind or wanting to pull. Its just a shame there isn't a set time when there's no bloody cats about, if I spot them first he will leave them but you always get the kamikaze ones who jump out from behind a gatepost or something.

On the country lanes where I exercise the dogs on the bike, the main hazzard I get is a squirell or a rabbitt darting accross on in front of you !! :icon_eek: .

I always try and have a few loops of the lead loose in my hand so at least when I see the rabbit or squirrell it gives me a chance to get my arse off the saddle and my feet on the ground before the inevitable " TWANG" as the lead gets tested by the dog !!lol.

Trouble is you have to have a much longer lead, but thats a small price to pay, other than coursing and working, it's the best sort of exercise you can give your dog IMHO, good for feet, stamina, muscle condition all sorts(and it gets a few pounds off me as well, not that theres any spare in the first place you understand :icon_redface: !?!)

I know what your saying with the squirrels, dog run in front of me a couple of years back i ended up doing the summy over the handlebars and the end result was a broken wrist :censored: ,now if they need a run they run behind the motor
