J Darcy 5,871
I was invited out with my mate today who is a stalker. little Col accompanied us and he was a joy to watch in the proper countryside, pretty much for the first time. I approached a nice lump of gorse and threw a few stones in, but all that flushed was a smart fox, i left her and carried on. Right ayt the furthest edge of the permission i spotted a roe sat down some yards away under a low hawthorn bush. I love spotting the deer as they bed as its much harder than simply wandering aimlessly along. I was up on my stick and wondered if the little 13 week old pup would be frightened by the .243 blast. BOOM! col didnt care one iota and i watched as a fine doe rolled down the banking, coming to a rest in some leaves. There was a buck and he offered a great sgot, but i declined as he was in velvet and out of season. So how would the pup react to the deer. ? at first he was cautious but i sat down next to the deer and soon enough he was trying to eat the neck of this roe through the hole i had shot it. As i dragged the deer up the bankings towards the car the dog went frantic and everytime i stopped for a breather he would try to grab a mouthful of meat from where i had gutted it. I know it means little, but i firmly believe early association stays in the dogs mind. I want him for tracking ( ) deer when he is old enough so this was a good introduction for him./. heres a few pics.... ccc ccc Quote Link to post

Berkutchi 0
Nice to see .What is in the pups breeding? I know of some German shorthaired pointer breeders in Germany that start their pups sooner by giving 8 - 10 weekold pups whole fox carcasses and boar heads to pull at. Quote Link to post
