Tomm Parr 30
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnEDM4EC5kw Saved by the bell WASNT HE JUST An absolute legend in and out the ring and a truly honourable man, a real gentleman. You can't say that about many blokes nowadays. Clay would've been counted out if it wasn't for some crafty cornerwork by his second but such is life... I'd want someone like him standing next to me if i was in a tight tight spot. Plenty of today's boxers could take a few leaves from his book. Attack Fell Terrier 864
This is really sad news for me. It's times like this that I wish I believed in god. RIP Henry Cooper.

mad al 146
"He may not have been the greatest fighter Britain has ever produced, but there has never been a more popular one than Cooper" He could walk the walk and never needed to talk the talk.
gnasher16 31,602
Sadly it wasnt surprising,Henry went steadily downhill these last few years.....having lost his wife a few years ago and his twin brother George last year he just kind of gave up on life. You could always guarentee seeing him at the London ex boxers shows and meetings.....but not the last few years unfortunately.Very decent and sincere man never got above himself, always very helpful and a true gentleman. Most folk will remember him for knocking Clay/Ali down but hopefully he will be remembered for a far bigger accomplishment....the only man ever to win 3 Lonsdale belts outright. Rest in peace one of Londons finest,Sir Henry Cooper.
scothunter 12,609
hey for all you boxing experts here.was talking to a cpl mates earlier about henry copper and ali fight.now i was never really into watching boxing passionetly but here the question.my mates old man said about the ali fight.ali used to predict the round he would put his opponent down, now he says ali was show boating and fannying around basically till the round he predicted and cooper got the dig in that put him down.is there any validity in this do you think?or is he way off! because come the round he predicted he cut cooper to bits. He reminds me of my Granddad who is a massive fan of Cooper, he'll be gutted to hear this news .

She was yes,Henry has 2 sons both Italian names i forget what they are now,but his brother George was a massive influence,a decent boxer in his own right but pretty much gave up his own career to work Henrys corner, they were very close so it was understandable how he sadly fell apart....i dont think it would be too dramatic to say he died of a broken heart. I vaguely remember being a tiny kid on my old dads shoulders at Highbury for the second Ali fight where Henry again got cut to ribbons.....still got the original ticket and program here.....He was a big favorite of his generation he conducted himself in the right way and was a big influence for such a quiet unassuming type of man. Yeah he was, it's a shame to hear how things turned out for him towards the end of his life after being (like you said) such a sporting favourite in the UK. What was the actual cause of his death? Does anyone know yet? Edited May 1, 2011 by Attack Fell Terrier
