Jill not looking well

Recommended Posts

I [bANNED TEXT]'t out this morning to feed my ferrets and saw that one of the jills was moving very slowley, eyes half open, looking very weak.

I kept checking up on her all day, and she is only getting weaker and weaker, she is hardly moving (just dragging herself about).

she is still the same now, does anyone know what may be the problem? how can i help her?

Thanks

hi mate is your hutch in a sunny spot ? ferrets can dehydrate very quickly if they're kept in a sun all day, as said in last post try and get fluids in with syringe or offer some milk with a bit of honey or sugar, what are you feeding ? if it's raw meat then this can go off quickly with the weather we've been having last couple of days a.t.b sfa

No no the ferrets are eating the kibble, She was licking water from the bowl i put in this afternoon, but i am not sure if she is actually drinking it.

I don't have a syringe??? I will try the milk and honey though.

the cage is not really in a sunny spot, its nicely coverd, but it could be in the way of the sun in the morning.

she was fine yesterday!

If you say it was in the morning you first noticed the problem, then not likely to be heat related. If you want to check if she is dehyrated, pinch a fold of skin around her neck/shoulders (not too hard) and hold for (literally) a second, then let go, if the skin springs back to normal instantly, then don't worry about getting extra fluids into her. However if the skin takes a second or two to go back to normal after you've pinched it, then yes, she needs extra fluids asap.

Best thing really is to get her to vets, if you haven't done already. Her symptoms don't sound great! Might be worth taking her sister if they live together, just incase it's something contagious.

I hope she recovers soon, best of luck.

Yes she was drinking it, and she seemed to enjoy it actually. I have not fed them fresh rabbit for a while. they have all been eating the same stuff and its the same that they have been usually eat, kibble and sometimes i mix cat food in with it. But like i said all the other ferrets are fine and acting normal.
