That's not too old mate - the dog on my avatar - a 3/4 bred collie/greyhound was still killing foxes at 10 years old. I bought him from David Hancock (he was a Taffy puppy) in 1987 when he was 8 weeks old - he was 3 when he killed his first fox and killed his last during the winter of 97.
