The right whippet will do that job, no need to dilute the speed for cuddleability, there's nothing more cuddleable than a whippet that does the job!

Whippets are suited very much to being a house dog, very affectionate and cuddly, but an entertaining joker at the same time. They can curl up tighter than a cat so take up very little room. I've foun

Hi scruff,i hav two dogs a whippet x collie grey which has taken mainly to the whippet and a first cross whippet bedlington, both great dogs, beddy being a little head strong, but as previous posts have said they are seriously brave dogs, great for bushing, lamp, ratting, and there noses are spot on for marking, mine never been wrong, as i do not own a pure whippet i cant comment to much, but will say that jaw power and the teeth on him put my whipet grey to shame they are some serious teeth,i must say i would prefer my beddy x for colder days wit not much action as my whippet grey does get a tad cold when mooching about my yard doing things, but on the lamp my whippet grey quickeron the bunnies, but misses marks out ferreting that the beddy gets, hope this helps p.s youd be hard pushed to find a better guard dog they very protective so would be great for the missus at home. Think i got pics up on my previous posts although quite old pics

Hello mate. I personally lamp fox's with the rifle on a number of farms and the local estate. I also get the odd call from folk with small holdings and allotments etc.

My lamping buddy has two Hancock collie greyhounds I think, and he gets first dibs on owt week see, I take what won't come basically.

I'm after a dog a lot smaller than the two my mate has. I spend a lot of time walking round the farms I have, and with me taking all the fox's, I need to stay on top of the rabbits.

The Rimfire is deadly with ricochets and i prefer not to use it so a nice little dog would be great. Also theres nights when I fancy a walk alone and I'm sure I'd be able to bag a brace or two.

fair play mate, well i think your looking the right direction in the line of dog your after, 3/4 beddy hound work a treat to, best of luck with em anyway mate,

Hello there. I'd like some good constructive information about bedlington whippets. Why, or why not to beginn with.

I need a dog to cover a few base's really. One I can use in the hedge bottoms, whilst walking round the farm picking off the odd lose bunny, day and night, and one small enough to curl up on the sofa with the wife whilst I'm working nights.

I know nothing about lurchers to be honest, and don't understand the numbers of x's within the breed, so any info there would be great also.

Regards

hi scruff, i have an 8month old smooth haired 3/4 beddy whippet and he is the most low maintenance dog iv ever known.

hes fantastic in the house, loves nothing more than curling up somewhere warm(sofa, next to fire) and will stay there all day if left.

but he is even happier out and about in the car, fields, woods or park.

hes a little bugger with my other dog but get on great and sleep in same bed.

i have high hopes for him working wise as he caught his first rabbit a couple of weeks ago and narrowly missed a phaesant yesterday.his nose is good and works cover well.

il have to agree with others tho in that im not sure what he could do that a whippet cannot as he doesnt have the coat to protect him but neither do i think that a whippet could show him up in anything either.

a whippet or beddy x will suit your needs im sure

Having read all your replys im a little wiser now. I bumped into a fella walking round the shoot today with a pure bedlington and he shed a little light too.

I've had a good look on the working bedlington forum and found some helpful information there also. All I need to do now is find the right pup and bobs your uncle.

One last thing. The fella today with the pure beddy said they don't malt, is this the case with a beddy whippet cross??

Out of interest what other dogs do you have?

Springer and cocker mate, both work under the gun, and I beat through out the season with them. My lamping buddy's work commentments means he can't always get out and as I go 3-4 nights a week, it's about time I got my own bunny dog.

In the past I've called upon friends for the odd night out and if I've ever needed owt digging, but I'm getting to the stage where I wouldnt mind a bash myself, I've all the permission I need to do it without upsetting anyone.

That was my guess!

Sounds like your in an ideal position to get a wee running dog then. I'm sure when the time comes you may even start leaving the rifle at home a bit more often
