dave1372 83
I was just chatting to a friend of mine who has just got some ferrets. I am anything but an expert on ferreting but have been out a few times with guys ferreting rabbits to shotgun and I mentioned that maybe it would be worthwhile him looking into getting some muzzles as he doesn't want to be sitting waiting or having to dig out ferrets if they have got hold of young kits. Does anyone have any actual experience of muzzles, do they work and if so which ones to buy and which ones to avoid ? Cheers. Quote Link to post
DogMagic 461
Avoid all muzzles mate. If the ferret comes across a rat it wont be able to defend itself. If heaven forbit you lose the ferret it wont be able to feed itself. If it comes across a stubborn rabbit it will take a lot longer to shift it. If it finds a nest of kits it aint going to leave them till theyre dead anyway and it will kill um a lot quicker (more humanely) if it can use its teeth. Edited to say you shouldnt be ferreting if you know there are kits about anyway. Edited March 5, 2011 by DogMagic 1 Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
some scenarios for you ....... 1. your ferret goes to ground muzzled and meets a rat, weasel, stoat, wild ploecat how is it going to defend itself ? its brain will engage into fight mode but it will get killed as it cant actually bite due to the muzzle ..... 2. your muzzled ferret bottles up a rabbit how can it kill it quickly and move on / it cant it will spend hours scratching at its arse trying to kill it resulting in you spending MORE time digging for it ......... 3. you loose your muzzled ferret how is it going to feed itself .... it aint its going to starve to death ....... As far as not ferreting when kits are about I kinda see where you're coming from if ferrets aren't muzzled .... I couldn't be arsed digging out the ferrets all the time! . Quote Link to post

Ferret mad Dave 65
If he really does care about his ferrets don't use one it's like you fighting with ur hands tied behind your back Quote Link to post
willygun 0
Tell your mate to stay well clear of muzzles and if he doesn't like digging to the ferrets he would be better off finding another hobby as digging is all part and parcel of the game. Quote Link to post
The one 8,592
Pretty sure it would be illegal to put a ferret to ground with a muzzle on Quote Link to post
