broken rabbit snares

Recommended Posts

Careful where you put ya snares I placed one well away from or so I thought from peoples dogs. Went to check and the snare had gone turns out a member off here's dog was caught in it, when he went to find his none returning dog it was just sat there calmly caught  he didn't know it was mine and I didn't know where the snare had gone complete mystery for both of us for about 6 months   My main concern was that there was a reynard walking round blinged up  could of been a lot worse if it was an old locking snare me and him probably wouldn't be on friendly terms

checked my rabbit snares the last two days and found three of them have had the wire cut right thru, would a fox be capable of doing this

foxs will leave them like these in the picture,do your wires look like the one in the middle?

There are several reasons why you may have broken snares.....The above posts pretty much cover all the bases but dont forget to look at the actual wires themselves...If there wires you purchased from reputable snarer then i imagine they would be fine, but bear in mind snares that have been spun too tight or lose will have a lower breaking strain.....atb

well thanks for the replys, reading the posts I think i can eliminate it to two causes now, Yes it does look like the one in the picture, Dogs and Badgers are out of the question, I can only put it down to fox or a fouled snared rabbit that has been twisting for a few hours unfortunately, The wire i use comes from a good supplier and is six strand brass

Have not posted for a long time now, but there is a probing interest within the animal bloody rights group to out right ban the snaring of animals and I state within Wales though not as yet in England, how do we as a collective argue against this?
I can understand the argument that traps are more use than snares, but we have to invoke the use of snares when dealing with foxes in certain predicaments, or am I mistaken, please somebody tell me whether I am right or wrong, I do not want to look as though I am misguided but the latest snares do not kill but restrain the animal which is a good thing and is being responsible towards the animals well being!
We as a responsible trapping society have to abide by the rules so why are we as a responsible trapping society always covering our backsides.
Is it getting more difficult to apply our trade?.
Personally I do not use poisons so the cost of job does increase, though I do see a better job satisfaction.
At the end of the day its not all about money.
We as a collective can not allow our sheer existence to be erased like a rubber. please fight for our rights as it will not stop at snaring it will escalate towards the usual trapping and eventually shooting so if you care about our rights think first.
