R4881T 1
Hi All, I have just seen on BBC points west that some swans have been shot in Somerset. With x rays confirming that they were indeed shot with air rifles. All were head shots, and some had more than one pellet lodged in there skulls. I personally am disgusted by this and hope that who ever did it gets caught and punished to the full extent of the law. It marrs our sport with a dark stain and very negatively impacts on the image of air guns and those who use them. If anyone hears of anything, please do not hesitate to contact the thin blue line! Cheers Ryan Quote Link to post
Ron Weasley 83
I haven't seen that story myself, but you're right - it's people like this that will cause us all to suffer in the long run. Quote Link to post
Karpman 44
Disgusting and disgusted by this news, Used to clear rats whilst night fishing some years ago. Some pratt maimed a swan and all was stopped. Karpman Quote Link to post
lighthunter 81
i agree lads, totaly pointless what did they gain. Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Only made the news because it was airguns They don't seem to mind the amount of immigrants that trap and maime the Swans on the rivers and lakes and use them for food Quote Link to post
R4881T 1
Absolutely nothing. Its not even like they took them for the meat, the carcasses were reported to a local wildlife sancturary. One swan survived, but must have needlesly suffered! Ryan Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
What they gained depended on the size of the flock before they started. OK so swans are a beeping nuisance when you are coarse fishing, one on the Trent near the forest ground used to investigate bait tins and lunch boxes and refused to be dissuaded by anything less than a bank stick, but they are majestic creatures and off the menu as far as us commoners go (her Maj can eat them though). The problem is we have someone who has killed, probably for food though some sick git may have shot them for "sport", but the likelihood they were killed for food. The countryside is now being plundered by people for food, carp, tench, barbel, all being stripped from the rivers, not only by rod and line but by netting! Soon we will see a great decline in wildfowl encountered in parks (ducks, geese etc) and poaching will become more frequent. Soon it will be that we will no longer be able to control vermin, as there will be none left. If anybody doubts what I say I was on a fishing trip last year, which a couple of Eastern Europeans were on, everything they could keep they did, including a conger eel, that was only about 15lb in weight. This was stuffed into an ice box they had brought on board with them. It was fun watching them trying to put other fish in to find the conger was quite happily in residence eating all the other fish they had caught though! A half hour battle with the conger then ensued and it was not pretty! Before anybody gets the hump and starts calling me racist, my Grandfather was born in Russia, to a Polish mother and Russian father, he resided in Warsaw and joined the Polish Airforce when some German oik decided to invade. He managed to escape just before the country fell to the Nazis and joined the Polish Free Airforce, Heavy Bomber squadron. After the war because he was an expert in radio and radar he was kept on to teach radar use to the colonies, like India. By the time he was discharged from the airforce he had married my Grandmother and was refused entry back to Poland, as a stateless person he emigrated to South Africa before returning when the ANC really started blowing things up (well the Umkhonto We Sizwe bit did anyway). He was naturalised British in 1965 and was proud to be British, even voting against the Common Market in the referendum... Edited due to spacebar sticking and not putting space in when hit! Ron Weasley 83
Mole, what makes you think these swans have been killed for food? I shoot stuff for food, and I find it useful to take the carcass with me when I leave. Quote Link to post

I agree with a lot of it really,, the number of swans killed for food by eastern eupropeans far outnumber those shot by fukin little nobshits with cheapo airguns (put money it that they used an SMK) Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
(put money it that they used an SMK) No chance RA If they had used my SMK they wouldn't have left one standing injured! Well I wouldn't anyway. It matters not what gun they used though does it? They were just plain fecking scumbags who did it what ever they used Our laws are our laws and no matter how stupid (and trust me I've just found out exactly how stupid they can be) they are there to be obayed or complained about, not to be broken.
