bird 10,015
generally speaking what difference is there in temperament between the cattle dog and border collies? Cattle Dogs are selectively bred to be a wee bit more suspicious of strangers. just a bit but still make a good lurcher x back to grey or back again Quote Link to post

wild rover 548
generally speaking what difference is there in temperament between the cattle dog and border collies? I find from what I have seen of collie crosses and cattle dogs is that they seem hardier, more robust, can take a tap or a bollocking without sulking, dont know if its just me but they seem to produce a higher prey drive than what i have seen in collies a gritty determination to want everything. They can be hard work , some stubborn, individualists, protective over you and quarry, the prey drive can make hard work if ferreting and things are quiet, they want more than sitting and waiting. First crosses can be heavy with no great top gear but fast enough for most stuff, day and night, they arent everyone cup of tea just like other crosses but if you like you really like em hahah, Cheers. No mate they are not bred from stock over here but the Blue dog who is the sire worked farm stock and was used for hunting with lurchers and terriers. Quote Link to post
