FastDogz 155 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 In summer i have to go to France to visit a friend. .the thing is i have a giant phobia of planes..I know a lot of people do but..its horrid..I cant even bear to look at pics of them without feeling panicky But i also want to do this more than anything. I have thought about a ferry which i dont mind but they only goto north of France and my friend live in the South And i am panicking because only French language i can speak is "bonjour" and "wee" and "merci" So getting a train from the ferry dock to Toulouse is a nono..I would get off at wrong stop or simelar :whistle: And i will be travelling alone...I have visited websites about fear of flying and one of them made me worse because it said - If a engine does stop the plane can still glide down to earth safely..and it explained noises i could hear on the plane Oh woeee is meeeee...any help advice..tips and even your own storys of overcoming fears of planes and forgin languages would help. Planes? Easy....get a few jars inside you before you get on and keep drinking Language? Easy...they all speak English If you get stuck here's a few pointers.... Excuse me, can you tell me if this is the right way to Toulouse? Excuse moi sil vous plait, voulez vous couchez avec moi ce soir? Do you have any English beer? Que'est con fait le soir? Can you tell me where the nearest hotel is please? Drink copiuse amounts of booze and Remember, a phobia is as big as you make it......... you got plenty of time to get it sorted. It really is all in ya head....believe me, i know, i am not paronoid. I used to be a long haul artic driver and drove all over Europe without a single word of French, German, Italian, Spanish etc. etc. and I survived. I wise man once told me "all you need is a good map, and a civil tongue" and I've been getting by on that ever since. Heading to Germany next weekend on my own for 4 days to a stallion licensing and I know I'll have no problems. If your polite and presentable, 99% of will help you out. I once stopped a french men and asked him in my best french "parlez vous francais". Of course he bloody spoke French, he was a frenchman! What I should have said of course was "parlez vous anglais".
