taking on a pet mutt

Recommended Posts

yes i know i once asked about staffs for guarding and i took the advice and never went for the particular pup i had in mind didnt want to fall into making this particular breed of dog aggressive so not really suitable although i know a few of you out there have them that will guard readily,

so with my new years resolution"to get out more during the day with the dogs this year"i thought about getting a little bushing terrier to work along with the lurchers.

i did have one for a few years but my job at the time the hours were relentless and wasnt fair on the bitch so she went to willow off here and is worked every day and hes very happy and couldnt have asked for more i hear so all good on that front.

well been looking for a couple months now not wanting to pay silly money for one but nothing really taking my fancy so just started browsing through the free ads.

then it all went tits up from there

saw this advertised, male staffy year old great with kids, house trained but my other dog will not get on with him, other dog being a jack russel,i made the call :icon_redface:

well it seems she only had him a month took him from someone that couldnt look after him,yes i know out of the frying pan and into the fire :wallbash: so with wifey in tow we went along for a look.

well what can i say, soon as we went into the house he was over us like a rash but only boisterous not nipping or barking at all,the couple were obviously both out of work, presumption didnt ask but just seemed to be the case.

i asked a few questions, asked what he was like on the lead, they didnt know they had not taken him out "yet"only had him a month

wife gave me that look, you know the hes coming home with us type of look  .

so got him home walked him over the field for an hour then introduced him to my 10 year old lad,he bloody adores him already and is looking forward to us having a house dog,

iv tried him with his grub and a doggy chew and hes not food aggresive at all and will readily give up what ever he has,he spent the night on our bedroom floor and after hed finished exploring dirty knickers and socks :icon_redface: he settled down and never heard a peep out of him so all good, got him frontlined up and wormed this morning so all thats left really is the intro to the lurchers and start getting him out, will he work, shit who cares but im dammed if i wont do my best to get him going and if nothing else hes a great addition to the household.

yes im already wondering what iv done but hes here now and here to stay nothing more need saying really

GOOD on you mate for re-homing the dog.We re-homed a 4 week old 3/4 greyhound 1/4 bulldog pup 2yrs ago  .The wife took it off some local kids who were abusing him.We contacted the police and RSPCA and were told we could keep him.He has made a great loyal pet and is the cleanest dog i have ever had.Only downside is ,that he is very protective and needs to be muzzled at all time when outside.
