It was back in 1964 we were doing H,M,S, HERON, aircraft, carrier base, at Yeovilton, nr,Yeovil, a couple of local lads,

invited me to the Badger ball, and that was the first time I ate Badger, it was cooked like boiled Ham, and Tasted just like a

sweet Ham,with New potatoes, and cabbage, went down a treat, I was only 19 then I had a very handy collie x with cotton kings blood running through his veins, and he was taken his fare share of Hares around that area, they had never been coursed, Scrumpy was about 1 shilling a pint,=5P

i NEVER TRIED IT, I kept to the light + Bitter,

After spending a large chunk of my life living in Asia there isn't much left I haven't eaten. Badger is one of the few things I am yet to try and so far I have never found anything meat based I wont eat except Ginsters.

I live about 10 miles from their!

 

It's called 'Country Ham' by the way.... Thats why their refered to as 'Pigs' lol (and of course the fact they root everything up!!! lol).

Only cooked. Penis tastes much like any other meat all be it quite tough. Good for sexual stamina apparently. :toast: :toast:

an old friend of mine hes 72 used to live in somerset/dorset not sure. he told me when he was invited to the big house for dinner he thought he was eatin good ham when the master of the house asked if he liked hes dinner he said yes .good because thats the badgers the farmworkers add dug on sunday morning how time as changed

 

Maybe it's just a Somerset/Dorset thing then lol.

 

Thats how you know when you've been in Somerset too long, Your wife, sister and daughter comes to less than three people and Old billy is more likely to be seen on a your plate than he is in the fields.... :icon_redface:

I've eaten badger and fox. Badger was ok . It had been prepared by my boss of the time's wife- who obviously knew what they were doing .It had been salted and smoked and to be honest was very similar to a bacon joint. On the same menu was squirrel and bacon pie - tasted like nutty bacon.

The fox was of my own preparation . Might have been my lack of culinary skiulls but I opted to chop some haunch into cubes and stew it . Dry ,musty a bit too strong tasting for me even when boiled to utter tenderness.Probably fine in a survival situation but not for me Maybe I did it wrong.

 

Badger fat was used for all sorts of things too .

when we were kids we would go with the old man badger digging every saturday , he would take the back legs of them and the fillits and sell it down the pub and he could sell all he got and more , we had badger hams on sundays for tea cant say i fancy one now mind

i heard them meaty swords are known for growths that burst resulting in a creamy salty liquid :blink:
