I had the Law to my Place Just before Xmas with Regards to an Alleged Assault. When they came and took a few Details they noticed My stuffed Badger and Fox heads on the wall with That they decided to Search me and found My Opinel in my Wax Jacket. They asked me What i used it For so i told them for Gutting Rabbits and Opening Sacks of Chicken feed when i'm up the Allotments. They told me it was Illegal to Carry such a Knife and Advised me to Leave it up the Allotments. With that the One Officer showed me The Knife that he Carries. That was a Lock Knife with a Blade over 3".When i asked him how he could carry such a Knife he Replied "Because i Can".The Opinel is Still in My Wax Jacket.

its all down to the officer on the day if they say hunting is not a good enough reason then your nicked its a farce , in my case i asked for a form to get my knife back only to be told it had allready been destroyed ,i wanted it becuse me father give it to me as a present ,it had been destroyed and this was before id even been convicted so another reason for the magistraite to convict me so i couldnt sue the police for the cost of the knife its ridiculus it would have cost me more to sue them than the knife is worth ,my advise to anyone is be very carefull with the law and knives

Should'nt they be taking knifes off of chavs that should'nt have them and are using them for all the wrong reasons, they seem to be trying to pick easy targets to meet their figures or something along these lines. I wont stop carrying my knife when I need it!

you have to have a valid reason for carrying one...for work and so on

you would think this is the truth but its not. i got pulled in my van on my way hunting i was searched and they found a 3 and a quater inch locknife ,the french wooden handled type designed for hunting ,in my van were three dogs my lamp rucksack and some fishing gear ,i was then arrested for carrying a bladed article in a public place and van impounded even though it was fully legal i got my van back and went to court i was fined 400 pounds and 120hours community service because it was a lock knife and over 3 inchs and even though they had stopped me i was in a public place the pavement ,the arresting officer was a major anti and told me hunting rabbits with dogs is also an offence more bullshit

IT IS ILLEGAL TO CARRY A KNIFE OVER 3 INCHS IN A PUBLIC PLACE NO MATTER WHAT REASON YOU HAVE BE VERY VERY CAREFULL

opinel lock knifes are not legal atall as they lock

This is incorrect. You were either wrongly prosecuted or there was more to the story,, No offence meant bud ,but this should have been chucked out of court as fishing is sufficient reason to have a fishing knofe with you.

ATB

The knife I take fishing is practically a machette and have come across the police 2 or 3 times when fishing from piers etc in the summer and it has been a non issue even when I have held it in my hand with tourists walking past me. If I wasn't fishing or started threatening people with it I would expect to get arrested.

Seems to me you had a bad copper and an even worse brief.

I would agree with your last comment in full

As a trained deerstalker I carry a knife with me either in my vehicle or on my person which is a fixed blade variety in excess of 4" to administer a quick kill if i come across road injured or other sick deer to prevent suffering as i am legally obliged to do so . This is sufficient reason in law. If I was stopped and charged and it went to court the case would fail as i comply with the just reason clause. And under no circumstances should a person found in similar circumstances ever ever accept a caution as this will effect a persons chances of a firearm or shotgun application.

Regards

Caprelous
