i used to hitch all over the place many years ago but i wouldnt do it now.a tip a lorry driver once gave me was always travel with lorry drivers theyre literally knights of the road and apart from anything else you cant drive down a small country lane in a great big lorry without it being noticed so theres less chance of them going off the beaten path with you.have to say i usually travelled with lorry drivers and never had any trouble and a lot of them stood me a meal in a greasy spoon cafe

Aye mate it was mad, i had a lot of strange but interesting diversions and met some very cool and some slightly odd folk. I lived in Budapest for a few years and we used to make bets with folk and have hitching races, to other countries and back home. Sometimes people got lost for some time.

I had a french female student working for me during the summer who hitched home to southern france.

Never heard from her again so there's a good chance she's in bin liners in a motor way ditch somewhere.

Brave girl.

Hitched in parts of africa, south america and asia,I once got a lift from Peshawar to Rawalpindi in the back of a truck carrying goats, and caught a lift from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan with a coca-cola delivery driver who gave me loads of free bottles during the journey :)

Hitching with a empty petrol can will get you a lift quicker and only once have i been chucked out a motor for not needing petrol,or just lie about you going to pick up a motor and thats why you don't need the next petrol station.
