Stalking rabbits last night

Recommended Posts

Me and the brother in law (trav) went shooting last night ,due to the obviously bad conditions here we decided it would be a good idea to just perch ourselfs and wait for the rabbits. So behind a fallen down tree in a lttle spinny i sat waiting ,facing parallel with the hedge for any feeding bunnys to emerge.

It felt like a waited hours for the first rabbit to come from under the hedge for a easy head shot , and again i waited for the next.More time passed and i was feeling the cold in my legs ,hands and feet but we were determined to make it a good bag.

Further up the hedge a handfull of rabbits came blasting through the hedge into the field ,too far for a shot so i waited once more just watching the rabbits feed. Then from the same hedge two foxes made thier way towards me digging in the hedge bottom probabley for something to eat,one fox took a wide berth and could possibley sense me but the other who was more interested in finding something to munch was oblivious and walked within a couple feet away ,literally 5 feet .

It then caught sight of me and for a split second it was like a stand off , it looking at me and me glaring right back , i must say for a second i was considering pinging him one between the eyes but decided against it .well he was off and paired back up with the other again.

Back to the shooting , we stayed a little longer and managed 7 between us ,me shooting 3 and trav 4 ..he was absolutely buzzing his tits off as it was his first time he had gone out and made a kill ,well four kills .

On the way back i set up the a gate net i brought along ,shown him how to set it and then got him to walk in a small bit of rough ,i knew rabbits use this gate and it was obvious by the well worn run going underneath.Well i sat back and waited .. BANG one hits and is well netted ,i chinned the rabbit ,removed it and set the net again. Seconds later WOOOSH ..another ends up in the game bag .

All in All a awsome night considering the conditions ,9 rabbits for the freezer.

pics to follow later on

good hunting

You lucky sods :tongue2:

So bloody crunchy round here can't get anywhere near em and with the amount of freeing fog rolling in over the last few nights I wouldn't be able to see em if I could get within range

Nice work, we all know how your first kill gives you that high. It does me every time I take a new species  mind you I get almost as much of a buzz every time I hear the CRACK of lead on skull and bunny rolls over

Imagine how I'm gonna be with a .308 a Dear and a Boar soon :boogie::boogie::boogie::gunsmilie:

Sory rew, in jumping in to have a laugh at phantoms expense, I forgot to mention I thaught that was a great write up and enjoyed the read, me and steve went out last nite, had a wander but only saw tracks (probably made as we aproached).

Sp for digging in and sitting it out ( something we wern't men enough to do) to be fair we would have had to literaly lye down in over a foot of snow as no shelter/tree cover ect.
