The one 8,622
We went for a drive round my work last night had a great quiet night ended up with 23 but we shot a young rabbit no more than 6/7 weeks old full blown with myxi ,we never saw another rabbit with it so hopefully weve nipped it in the bud . Now its getting colder that might help ? 1 Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
Myxie is transmitted by fleas, If you shot one that young, you can guarentee that its prevelant around certain areas of your permission The mother, its siblings and other animals in the same warren will indeed have it or have had it The thing to remember is that bunnies are now developing a totally natural resistance to Myxie; and more and more of them are surviving each and every year. If that lil' un had grown up to be a healthy bunny (and yes it can and does indeed happen) it would have passed its resistance on to its young, giving the next generation even better resistance to the disease. This process will continue throughout the generations. Its just my own opinion but I feel that while its very distressing for us to see a bunny with Myxie and it must be distressing for the animal at the time, I feel that by shooting a rabbit with myxie (unless obvoiusly on its way out due to the disease) we are only making the disease last much longer. Its only going to be a matter of years (4 or 5 decades) before myxie will be to bunnies what a cold is to us humans. the more we wipe out the young with it, the longer the disease will last. I am lucky on my patches, I've not seen a confirmed case of Myxie yet, however I saw a bunny sat at the side of the road the other day close to my permissions that looked rather raggedy and I think its eye may have been sticky, I was on a bus at the time so couldn't see it properly for more than a second or two. Time will tell. If it was Myxie I recon it will hit my permission sometime next year. Phantom Quote Link to post
