wuyang 513
Ok thinking of getting another lurcher and i would appreciate your input, the bitch i have now is 8 and its showing(collie greyhound...23 inch). Thinking of getting something a bit different. Fancy something like a collie/greyhound cross whippet or something with bedlington in it. I mainly do day time bushing with the terriers in small fields and woodland, so the lurcher needs quick acceleration and good strike. I thought about a whippet , but one i used to work who wasn't bad at all did tend to strike a bit late..(im sure there not all like this),tending to be quicker up to the rabbit but not striking as good as the lurchers ive had. So any suggestions of dogs that you have found to excel in this area, pics... sizes etc.. would be appreciated. Cheers Edited August 18, 2010 by wuyang Quote Link to post

runforyourlife 361
Awhippet man would say get a straight whippet, as thats what they work... For what you are useing it for, beddy x sounds good. may be beddywhippet put to something else you fancy, The beddy whippet has that early injection on rabbit, and with the right breeding to the other side ,it is pretty fearless... Guest jt750
We had lots of success with 3/4 whippet 1/4 collie on the type of land you're working. Half x wasn't quite sharp enough but learnt its game very quickly and biddable to other jobs too. Quote Link to post
Coyotehunter 689
Collie/Whippet/Greyhound You can't get better for this type of hunting, a really well bred Collie half cross bitch put to the best Whippet dog you can find, you have brains, pace and acceleration, i'm into my forth generation of this cross and its dynamite , they have taken a lot of Rabbits, fox, some hares, and since being in Canada have taken Racoon, groundhog, possum !!!! Dunkanon 380
Ive got beddy x whippet, hes just startin out, hes been the most biddable and easy to train dog ive owned, he marks holes, jumps pretty well, and altho hes not had a catch yet the few times we have stumbled across something whilst out walking in the woods he quick off the mark and will even follow them into heavy bramble and gorse....needless to say he dont catch them in there, like i said hes just starting out but I think he gonna do ok.
