showing other peoples dogs

Recommended Posts

ok so over the years i have attended a lot of game fairs/shows and although i have never shown any of my dogs, and never will come to that, one thing i have noticed is that a lot of people tend to show/take into the ring other peoples dogs,is it purely because they may well be showing another of their own in a different class and don't want to miss out so get someone else to take it in the ring,i mean after all, from what i can gather lol the judge is there to pick a winning dog not pick the owner or is there an alterer motive,it seems from talking to a few lads that im not the only one that has noticed this and lets be fair it is supposed to be a bit of fun ,isnt it :hmm:

some judges may like the dog but not the owner.Sadly from some shows iv been too its very clear that some judges pick the owner rather then the best WORKING dog

Who cares, not me, never shown ,never will.Couldn't even watch to be honest. Its probably for sad people.

Telling everyone how many rabbits my dog has caught, and how HARD it,and my self are!

i let the wife and sun take my dogs in and that way thay feel involved .... a bit of fun.. but you do get some lads tacking mates dog in  it just the way it is LMAO.....

fair point about the wife and kids yes nice to get them involved but not quite what i was getting at if you know what i mean

It goes on in all dog showing events. At champ show level up to Crufts it's sort of like a big travelling circus and no matter which show you're at, you see the same faces. Some handlers are in the " clique ", and they know all the judges and socialise with them, so people will pay big money to have the right handler on the other end of their dogs lead.

I can understand why people do this because the financial rewards for winning Crufts are huge [ indeed, just winning champ shows is lucrative ] and when i was involved with that world twenty odd years ago dogs at that level of showing were known to change hands for 50k+ :icon_eek:
