johnboy19 38
Just back in from a couple of hours at the garden/woods permission, and came back with zero Ive been out 3 times in the last 2 weeks, and each time came back with nothing. First time Scott got 3 so i wasnt caring i got nothing. 2nd time was last Saturday morning in the back garden. Got there at about half 4 and decided just to spend the morning laid up in the garden. The rabbits are coming from a neighbouring field into the garden and wrecking it, but that morning no rabbits decided to turn up so that cant be helped. The most frustrating one was this morning. Got there at about 4.30 again and done the same. There was about 5 rabbits running about the road and about 7 on the field on the other side of the woods, so it looked promising. Nothing happening for the first hour then a rabbit turns up. It was hopping about the garden so i made a clicking noise and it stopped, i took the shot and the pellet went over its head this was just down to me getting a bit excited and not giving hold under a thought, and i was really pissed off with myself. After about 45 mins another appeared and the same thing happened. I though this one was on, or close to my zero but i missed. I then checked my zero and put 3 pellets on the bull at 20 yards, so it was bad shooting on my part. I stayed for another half hour then decided to have a quick walk up and down the woods. I got there and a fox was running about. So just decided i would have a quick walk up and down. Seen about another 7 rabbits while i was there but as always they seen me first and were offski. I just find it really hard to stalk around the woods without making too much noise, and there is a load of cover for the rabbits to hide in out of sight. I know it will all come with practice but if anyone has any tips on this kind of stalking please feel free to share. Anyway just though i would put this up as i've not posted in a while. Cheers John Quote Link to post

davyt63 1,845
hi john me tinks! you need to be there earlier! about 3:00am i have had some good results at this time of the day! get ya self settled and wait for them, whether its in a hide or just concealed your self behind a tree or some thing! TIP! once i took a rake to a permission and cleared a path of broken twigs to get a good stalk on and it worked! i went back in the evening and reaped the rewards no twigs to stand on and CRACK!!! it was well worth the time as this copse was 300yds long, and bunny's either side of it hope this helps! regards davy 1 Quote Link to post
silentshot1 206
The times I have zeroed with rabbits are far to numerous to count, what is a great spot one trip is pants the next. Nothing you can do, that's all just part of it. Just remember, in those lean times that you are in no way alone! It happens to us all, no matter what we are after. Just an idea, last year I got fed up with the erratic rabbit shooting on my permission, so I got some pigeon decoys and put them around and in sitty trees near the rabbit warren I was sniping. It really improved my options. Just a thought! Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
Happens to us all buddy I know what you mean about stalking being hard work, I got into the cemetery the other evening and every footstep, was Crack, Crack, Crackles Its so dry that even the cut grass was making a noise! Had to get myself in position between the times they heard all the noise and the time they came back out. The local intruder alarm in the big old tree is the worst though as soon as one squakes the rest start and the woodies start flapping and then its dry for an hour at least most times. johnboy19 38
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll take them all on board. I like the rake and strimmer ideas, defo worth thinking about. I have sum decoys so i will stick them in the boot of the car and give them a go aswell. Yeh Phantom i know what you meen, 2 maggies started going nuts when i got there and it was a while til they were gone. Fid you put a curse on these turret covers before you sent them to me lol framer, fair enough. Im sure once the scope comes you will make up for it. The thing that really got me was the 2 miss's, i would have rathered they shots never presented themselves than miss. Ah well, as you say, happens to us all. John Quote Link to post
