stealthy1 3,964
Now then airgunners, I was out again on Mr Parsons land yesterday evening dealing with the miners around the cattle sheds, I want to get these rabbits sorted as quick as I can, as soon as they're all trapped I want to get the tunnels filled in with a good mix of concrete to deter an other budding miners, out of the four fenns I set, three had long eared miners in them, so good result, five so far. The wires had 8 this morning on the paddock, so a fat pony is looming It was now seven'ish, I could see a plume of dust along the roadway, in front of that was an old Land Rover third gearing it, I know who this is, the landy pulled up as I side stepped into an out house to avoid the imminent dust bath, I heard the landy door slam shut, but could'nt see the occupant Then I heard Mr Parsons coughing and flapping his cap at the dust, ayeyup Stealth, its a bit dry at the minute eh! he said, I laughed and agreed. I always do that roadway in second gear, or turn left onto the paddock to let the dust cloud over take me Arrrre you doing and good up here Mr P asked, I told him I had trapped a few, and to get his lad Matt to order some bags of ready mix to fill the tunnels next week when I had extracted all the occupants of cattle shed manor, he said he would sort it when he got home. What you on with now Mr P asked, I'm going to have a sniping session with the HW100T I said, which just happened to be sat in the front foot well of my landy, BYE CHRIST! it bloody space aged that gun of yours, was it expensive he inquired, when I told him how much it was to buy, he said, bloody hell lad, you could buy a good tractor for that money, I dont think I've spent that much money on the wife, and we've been married 52 years he said with a chuckle, I just laughed, he is a character, I have a lot of time for the old boy, he never has a bad word to say for anyone, and thats a quality you dont find in many folk. Reeeet! lad, I'm off, feel free to take as many rabbits as you like, and I'll get your concrete sorted for Monday, bye lad he said, and off he went, so I ducked back in to the out house until the dust had settled Right, all the traps checked, emtyed, and reset, this is where I set up, I did'nt want to wander round all evening, I just wanted an easy evenings whacking. Bollocks I thought, forgot to ask for the key to the gate again, another long walk back to my motor laiden with bunnies, I almost wished I had nothing to carry back Anyway, this is the spot. Not the best of pix, but you get the idea, the white square you can see is an old water tank in front of the cattle sheds, its 45 meters from where I set up, thats lazed. Its another one of those places where rabbits can hop out from anywere, one hopped out yesterday that was so close I could have stock whipped it given the chance, but it saw me first Behind me is some tall Rape that casts a shadow over my back, and kept me in the shade, nice. First thing to appear was a big fat rat doing the kangaroo accross the grass in front of me, I was tempted to take the shot, but I did'nt want to shoot across the paddock the rabbits were making their way onto, next time rolland. 45 minutes had passed before something caught my eye, the first rabbit came into range, WHACK! and that cricket ball on willow sound told me that it was'nt going to kick its way home, so I left it where it dropped. The next was to my right, I could hear something chewing in the Rape, a quick scan with the scope revealed the head of a rabbit just above the grass edge to the field. WHACK! and number two rolled back into the Rape, I could see its back legs, so I knew it was staying putt I had a quick swallow of pop, and scanned the terrain for movement, I could just make out a pair of ears twitching in the long grass, and I thought I could just see another pair next to them, I rubbed some grass in my hands to make the owner of the ears raise its head, and up popped the head, WHACK! and over it rolled, my luck was in, the other set of eears stuck its head up to see why his dinner date had fallen over, WHACK! so I took out the second diner, I love these side loaders in these situations, re-loading is just so easy and quick The evening was drawing to a close, the sun was on its way down, so with four shot, I packed up, and I wanted to do a final check of the traps before I left. The end of day pick looks like this. Its a beautiful time of the year to be out, and on the way down the track on my way home, I stopped to watch the sun go down, and what a stunning end to the day atb stealthy. 9 Quote Link to post
