Phantom 631
As I hadn't slept since 6ish yesterday, I figured that an early morning raid on Pool Bank may be in order as the land owner had said she was well pleased with my efforts and she had only seen a couple of bunnies first light when she feeds the Geese. It was 06:00 when I got there, so sun was shining, but there was a cool breeze. I arrived and went immediately to the Geese paddock and as I arrived I saw several full grown bunnies making a meal of the grass and digging like there was no tomorrow. I immediatley thought of Stealthy's post and laughed out loud out of the 7 three vanished as they heard my laughter, a couple scarpered towards the far fence and one went towards the fence to the left, not a good idea to shoot in that direction as there is only the trunks of the conifers to use as a backstop and they aint very thick I suppose I could shatter a few plates of glass from the comercial growers glasshouses behind them, but no, that would make things awkward. I ducked down and unslipped my baby from the bag, carefully removing the scope lens protectors and slipping an FX 16 grainer into the bay, driven home by the bolt Placing the silencer through the wire mesh of the gate, I took aim on the far end bunny directly in front of me. Click BANG not locked the bolt down Tother bunnies immediately gave it legs apart from two full growns. The one on the left was dangerously close to the entrance to a warren and if it dropped back or sideways it would have been out of reach, so the one on the right was a logical choice Taking careful aim I placed the crosshairs one mildot down from the sweet spot and let it fly, HUH? That thing was sat at about 20 yards, I had the shot alignnment spot on, but it went high and right Bunny didn't seem to mind phew another chance, the one on the left had gone under! Again, identical placement of the crosshairs and let the shot go. This time the thing went low and left! this gave old bug's food for thought and he decided to hop over to my left a little. Again another shot goes wide and far over his head, this I don't get...... DOH what do I do each time I go out? I fill the gun This time for some reason I had put 190 and a bit into the cylinder, I know my baby gives very consistant results from 185 down, think I need some kip. Anyways a couple of shots later and I give bugs genuine cause for concern as he gets his ears pierced So needless to say, off he goes.... Wake up Man it chastise myself, do things right FFS ior feck off home. So I stick my zero up at 30 yards and also chuck the diseased bunny from the cemy out at 30 yards and slit the belly in the hope of attracting a Maggie or a Carrion Crow. I then make my way over to my chosen sniping point and proceed to place 5 shots in a group the size of a 20 pence piece, weird that, these are what a friend sent me, they are the usual FX 5.52 but they have been washed and lubed, not by me cuz I'm lazy like that These are grouping well as I would expect, but my point of impact has shifted according to the scope dial on the turrets. Made the adjustment and then everything was as it should be. Got settled and awaited the return of a bunny or the greedy Corvids. I don't know why but the split bunny had the Crows circling for ages, but none would actually land, the Maggies, just flew over didn't even think about comming to have a snaffle of nice juicy entrails or eyeballs. Perhaps they can tell the difference between a fresh corps or possibly because they can smell the disease? Dunno, but they just didn't want to know about it. Only one Crow settled in a tree where it stayed for the entire duration of my stay. Anyways apart from a couple of tiny kits that came out to play and wouldn't sit still only one decent sized one showed its face. I moved the rifle in its direction, I was well hidden but as soon as the crosshair settled on the bunnies head, she turned and gave me a very small area to aim at as she had her head down munching. As soon as the opportunity arose, I slotted a 16grain pellet in the rear base of its ear. Perfection, straight through the Cerebellum, the bunny just rolled over, not so much as a twitch I love it when I can do that Heres the pix: Dropped like a stone instant switch off Heres the close up And the entrance wound After that I hung around till 11ish and then came home.
