Phantom 631
I decided that I really should do a little more work in the Cemetery this evening, so I headed out and arrived at about 18:00 Checked the zero, not the best grouping due to the breeze, but a few in the bullseye and I was happy. Got myself comfy next to the central warren and the big lilac bush. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw something come through the open gate of the cemetery, at first I thought I was seeing things WTF is that? A rather tall upright Bird walking at a fair pace towards the new section of the graveyard. Was it a young Pheasant? dunno, didn't have long tail feathers, but it walks at a hell of a speed! Ten minutes later as I'm scanning the hedgerow between the cemy and Bunny Land this same bird appears right in my scope, didn't half make me jump. Looking at the RSPB site, I think it was a fairly young female Pheasant. I do hope to see it again, during the appropriate season Five minutes later I'm collerd by the guy from the allotments asking me if I would take care of a couple of Nest robbing Magpies that have been bothering the Blackbirds in his garden. Yeah I said if they meet the GL's criteria I'll deal with them. He didn't have clue, but I know they do meet the Gl specs on songbird protection Just then a car pulled up at the gates of the paddock and two guy's got out and climbed over the gate not seen these two before, so I said ttfn to the old guy and headed over to the back of the cemetery where it joins the paddock. These two guy's were heading back towards me and I called them over. I asked if they were the new tenants as Mark has now left the land. The older gentleman said that he was the original tenant and Mark was his sub-tenant. I introduced myself and asked if he would mind me carrying on my bunnie boppin exploits. He asked 'Do you skin and gut them?' Yes I replied, 'Good you can shoot em but I wan't some for a pie though" Certainly Sir He then asked me if I could get to another piece of land, I know where it is, but its 30 mins away by bus and then about 20 mins by foot but only 10 mins by car. Shame he said, cuz that place is out of control bunny wise RiffRaff Fancy a drive buddy? I've got his number so if I can get the transport I'm willing to share a session with the driver He then told me I can; as long as I provide him with enough Woodies and bunnies; shoot on another 40 acre's that he has pretty close to where I live :boogie: although he has to have a word with the land owner to verify this. I'm glad I went to the cemy tonight it was a toss up between there and Poole Bank Anyways back to the hunt. My first target was a small to mid sized Kit. I hate shooting em this small but sadly its gotta be done to preserve the permission and more importantly limit the damage they are doing Pellet in through the eye and out through the back of the head taking a floppy brain with it. Second target was a tiny little un, so small that I cocked up the 1st shot and the pellet sailed over the top of its noggin, causing the little thing to run from 20 yards to about 30, bang on my zero Sitting facing the fence I placed the crosshairs right at the base of its right ear and middle of the skull between its ears Entrance wound Exit Wound complete with expelled grey matter. Third target showed up just before dark; a nice sized Doe with an eye for a nice bright pellet This unfortunately was a less than perfect shot as I was standing with the S200 at about 40 yards giving just over 1 mildot compensation. As I released the shot, she moved Although the pellet decimated the frontal lobe of the brain, I quickly ran over and pulled its neck just to make sure. As is to be expected, there was no exit wound as she was fully grown. As you can see the pellet entered right behind and above the eyeball smashing the skull to pulp. As I emptied her bladder I felt a large very mobile cyst in the inside of the leg muscle, so I have a feeling its another Tapeworm cyst So she's not for the pot, I shall use her as Corvid bait tomorrow at another small permission. I decided that as the light was fading fast I'd had enough got the group Photo and headed off home. A pleasant end to a crap day! Phantom Quote Link to post

Unfortunately it won't save whats important to me, but its a start So hopefully have my mobile sorted on Saturday (how long did it take em to cough up your brass?) Phantom Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
nice shooting phantom!do you eat the little ones? Depends on the size Aaron, the really small ones just pulled apart when I tried to skin them I remember pulling the neck on one really small kit, its brain had been decimated and most was outside on the grass, but it was still flapping about (Kinda shook me up that one did ) Thats why I hate to shoot the tiny ones. This particular one although it was just the nervous system misfiring; It looked like it was still alive by the way it was jumping and rolling, terrified me it did. I pulled its neck and it seperated completely but it still flapped for a few seconds. Kinda like 'Cutting the head off the Chicken' and it still runs around the yard. Very unnerving that was. I went home, couldn't take another shot apart from paper after that for a couple of days. So if its over say 7 inches, then they make nice eating in stir fry's very tender meat and tast nice too. But now though if I can help it I try to 'Miss' if the land owners watching but only the tiny ones Over that 7 inches and they go down. Even then they can flap about, so what I've started doing is placing the shot so it destroys the Cerabellum / Brain Stem, that tends to shut them down very quickly, without a twitch. Smaller area on a smaller target, and a much harder shot, but worth it if its done well Phantom Quote Link to post
