fitchet 788
as above do you think ferrets need working parents ? Quote Link to post
#1poacher 8
certainly not all ferrets should do the job and remember start with small holes then move on to bigger ones the more experience they have Quote Link to post

scothunter 12,609
well i always use working parents, but i know lads who have had ferts from non workers and they turned out very good.the thing is most ferts will eagerly shoot down a burrow but working the whole warren thats another thing.i believe if worked often enough it can only get better mate.im sure theres others out there who will disagree, but tbh who gives a f**k what they think lol its a ferret there natural nosey feckers. fitchet 788
i like a ferret that sticks with a rabbits that are in stop ends but if theyve killed i like them to move on wich is handy if your ferreting land with mixy rabbits on and i think you need to breed these ferrets Quote Link to post

farmerkev09 105
i would say its basic instinct for a ferret to work and with a bit of time and effort they should come on good farmer Quote Link to post
ferretertom 7
Theyl all work its just to what digree some just take to it better than others. Quote Link to post
pikey2983 2
none of my ferrets are from working stock i got them from the pet shop but i put time in with them and they are good little workers now. Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
I am of the very firm belief that a ferret is only as good as the work it sees - i.e, the more you work them the better they get. Some are definately better than others and I would only breed off the best for this reason. At the end of the day if a ferret only gets to work a few days a year it will always be shit. FTB Nah, thats not correct. If you have only a shallow working ferret, then thats what it will stay, all its life, no matter how much work you give it.. Like people have said, all ferrets will work to a degree but nmot all will become top class workers, noty even the ones bred out of working stock, make it to the top.. It takes time to find a fully stabilized working ferret, then when you do find the one, it doesnt always mean that its off spring will work to the quality of its mother or father.. The majority of ferrets will work to the finder depth and maybe a little past, say 20ft. Its the ones that push on further in warrens which hit 30ft plus deep that are the real deal.. The temperature changes dramactically, the air becomes thinner and the niose increases dramatically down there. Mainly tho the preassure increases a hell of a lot. This is where you'll find the majority of ferrets turn and head back... Such a warren i know of, and it leaves the finder at30ft, many times have i ran a good working ferret through it, after seeing 5 or 6 rabbits drop in, and many times have the ferretsd returned without anything bolting... 1 of my 4 ferrets will work the deep deep warrens, and run her through it after the other ferrets have done nothing, and she will bolt the bolters. Still the rest at that depth will sit tight, and often never move, unless of course you have 2 of these ultra fit and bottless ferrets... Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
Your entitled to your opinion - but I think it's wrong. I have witnessed my own ferrets getting better as the season progresses, and better still as the years progress. FTB Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
I know i am FTB, and i know i am right, they will become better and gain more experience, but once a shallow ferret always a shallow ferret mate. Atb Russ Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
not every ferret will work! and as for deep and shallow , rubbish , a good worker should follow sent as far as it has to if you have a ferret that won't go to 20ft then it ain't a good worker and once a shallow ferret allways a shallow ferret is just an excuse i think Quote Link to post
