aaronpigeonplucker 32
i was out collecing the eggs from the poults this morning. i had a basket full of duck and chicken eggs and was walking back to the house when i realised that i had forgot to fill the chickens water. so i put down the basket of eggs and went up the garden on return from the pen i was horrified to see 2 magpies tucking into the eggs . i had only been gone 2 minutes! i had seen this pair before as they have been terrorizing the local blackbirds. i had noticed that i was finding some cracked eggshells in the ducks coop which up until now i had jsut trhought it was the ducks stepping on them. i scared them off and they had cracked 5 of the eleven eggs!. right, a couple of eggs out tommorow on the lawn and i'll have those cheeky buggers. zini 1,939
That sounds like a good plan Aaron buddy It sounds like they have made themselves at home on your property buddy. I think a good diet of lead tomorrow will get you more eggs and assist the local black birds. Good luck Si Quote Link to post

I'm going to have another go at the Corvids with some eggs and a Deek or two Phantom Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
BREAKING NEWS i was hiding beneath some pines in my garden, waiting for something to come around. group of trees to my left about 40 yrds away and some telephone wire running over my head across my garden and a big blossoming cherry tree in the middle. it didnt take long before the 2 partners in crime arrived at a large ash. i was lining one up waiting for the wind to calm down so i could take a shot when 2 woodys landed on the telephone wires. now usually i dont shoot them this time of year but i could see the male was following the female and whooing her with big tail fans but she obviously wasnt intrested and was hopping away from him but he was very persistent. she flew off and he stayed there. with the knowledge that this woody did not have a partner as once they have one they stick with it throughout the mating season. magpie or woodpigeon? save the blackbirds or save my purple sprouting brocili + lovely tender meat. i went for the woody but by this time it had walked down the wires and was partially masked by the cherry tree. i though maybe, just maybe i could slot a pellet between a 3" gap in the branches. i though the pellet would go over the branch but as i pulled the trigger i was greeted with a loud smack as the pellet hit the branch and the woody flew off unharmed. the magpies flew off too but i'll get them some other time. youcan't win em every time. Phantom 631
You did right Aaron They didn't deserve to suffer even if they were to grow up into big chick eating egg robbing thieves. Phantom Quote Link to post
