First buck[s]

Recommended Posts

Drove to a place this morning in the dark arriving just in time to see the first rays of sunlight and what a sunrise it was ,absolutely stunning so stunning i forget all about a pic of it ,just enjoyed the moment .This place is made up of a central track with 3 fields either side leading to 4 across the top if that makes sense.Stalked left handed as this is my preferred route, wind permitting.

The second field over i bumped a group of deer from the next hedge back that ran to the far boundary and they stood ,a buck and 3 does, looking intently my way at about 90 yards in the middle of the field .I stooped carefully sideways to the gateway and was pleased to see them all still looking at me but starting to mill a bit which is the trigger for flight as you know.On sticks and waited for the buck to broadside which he did in two quick steps .He was obviously an old boy so no worries about taking him in velvet .Pulled the trigger and immediately saw another trio run through the next gateway into the field i had just shot the buck ,another buck with a doe and follower.A youngster this time and instead of tagging on behind the departing does they came straight at me with the mature doe leading as they do .The buck was obscurred by the does all the way in and as they were only 20 yards off me now and still no shot i made myself known to them at which they veered to the left ,ran a hundred yards and stopped to a whistle allowing me to take the buck in the chest .Cracking morning made all the better by an adrenaline rush !
