Rabbithunter 456
I've been having a little think, and since its neon impossible to get hold of a minshaw dog nowadays, i'm quite keen on the idea of getting another grey x whippet x saluki. Blade, a previous dog of mine, was of this breeding, and he ran well and caught well. I just think that with a little more time when he was a pup, he could of been a better retriever than what he was. but we learn by our mistakes. We all know, that some dogs of this breeding can be a little 'thick' which got me thinking, of what else would you put into this breed? Now, i have been thinking of putting labrador into the said breed, as we know labrador's are natural retrievers. Has anybody had any experience with Lab x Lurcher dogs? Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
I personal have never heard of a lab x lurcher I'm not saying that this is the case with you but too many people look at a dogs weak point and blame the breeding.... maybe just maybe you could have done more to make the dog a better retreiver ?? its not always the dogs fault it has a fault if that makes sense not having a go Ryan just some food for thought Quote Link to post
Guest JOEB
Depends how much work you want to put in I suppose............Someone told me the other day that a dog of saluki X breeding, that he had been out with and seen work, was the best trained lurcher he had ever seen. His exact words where "God knows how much time XX put in to that dog, but it was outstanding".............gets you thinking dont it. JOEB Quote Link to post

DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , OVER THE YEARS IVE SEEN QUITE A FEW LAB LURCHERS , AND TO BE HONEST I AINT SEEN A BAD ONE HOWEVER RABBITHUNTER ................ THE MAIN THING IN CHOOSING A PUP IS.......... TO...... KNOW..... WHAT YOU WANT AND EXPECT FROM YOUR DOG TOO MANY PEOPLE FAIL WITH PUPPYS BECAUSE THEY GET A CROSS WHICH ISNT SUITABLE FOR THE WORK THE OWNER INTENDED IT FOR ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
witton 6
Iv got one :11: There is a woman down the street from me who has got a whippet lab first cross and it dont look to bad but i wouldnt get one I would sooner have a dog with more sighthound/runing dog in it David edited to add, i wouldnt mind a pup from a whippet grey put over a saluki grey just to bring the size up abit. My 2 were out off a whippet dog put over a saluki grey bitch, one made 21 and the other made 24 which iv been told was the biggest bitch out of the litter of 11, i think all the dogs made around 24 but the females averaged out at 21-22. dodger 3,606
I can go back nearly 30 years with my dogs breeding and although you cant see it his sires breeding started off from a 1st x lab greyhound weather the owner was lucky i don't know but the dog was a cracker and took all quarry and lots of it,even now the lad says if he was after another lurcher a lab greyhound would be his first choice. Guest oldskool
i heard a lot of lads talk about labxgreys some of them said they would rather the 3/4 grey/lab.. alot of the first crosses can be a bit on the heavy side??? Quote Link to post
gelert 1
i got a pointer x and his first thought when he catches something is to bring it too me!! whether its fox, rabbit or whatever back it comes!!! there bit faster than labs and quite game but very intelligent i know i'm biased but i'd have another although the first cross is a bit heavy but still all legs and a good chest...........he can still move though worth a thought with saluki whippet and grey making 3/4 it would be great i reckon!!!
