Do you know the breed?

Just been reading one of my old books and I thought I'd post a few old names of well known, recognised breeds up to see if anyone knows what the breed is called these days. No cheating!

 

Bingley Terrier

Waterside Terrier

Wharfdale Terrier

(Different names for the same breed)

 

North Counties Terrier

Rothbury Terrier

 

Reedwater Terrier

 

Short haired Skye Terrier

 

Charlie's Hope Terrier

Mustard and Pepper Terrier

Quite an interesting old book this. What ever happened to Old English Spaniels and the Sealydale Terrier? :blink:

aberdeen terrier-scottish terrier..........roseneath terrier- west highland white terrier(westie) and the yorkie was known as the paisley terrier but shown in 1873 as a scotch terrier.the westie is a prod uct of mating wheaton cairns together every now and again you get a white one and the locals of portalloch called them the roseneath terrier the cairns that they hunted with were used in a pack col malcolm who had a pack thought the whites were to soft and were culled or given away as pets

Socks has it about right and the one he is missing Chartpolski got it on the nail....whippet. We still call whippets (or whippet/greys) "snaps" up north.

 

 

NEVER HEARD THE TERM SNAPS APPLIED TO DOGS ....ONLY FOOD .... A TERM USED IN YORKSHIRE IVE FOUND

 

IN THE AREA I WAS BORN THE NAME FOR WHIPPET / GREYHOUNDS WAS ALWAYS .... " A SNACK "
