Malt 379
no mate it just throws the quarry off course and it cant see the hole or gap it was headin for I agree with that mate. Half the battle with the small fields I lamp is getting the rabbits off their runs. They never stray far from the hedges, and unless you get them off their path back to the cover you don't stand much of a chance. Quote Link to post
scotty2306 37
no mate it just throws the quarry off course and it cant see the hole or gap it was headin for if the bunny is on s path home it will get through with the lamp on or off only way you will stop it is if the dog is on its case Quote Link to post
jamie2004live 163
always done that trick and would say it works well enough, another trick i do is show the quarry on the beam then switch the lamp off let the dog go and when you think the dog is close enough turn the lamp back on. caught loads of lamp shy foxes pre ban with this method Quote Link to post

I don't get huge numbers, but I get as much as others do with faster dogs on the same ground. Quote Link to post
littletimmy 71
Ive seen some people twirl the lamp when callin foxes. IMO it dont work. Who they think they are Derren feckin brown tryin to hypnotize the fox population. All it does is wind the dogs up an make you look daft. Quote Link to post
Wild_and_Irish 11
It's handy to put the beam completely to one side of the rabbit when its sitting out to moveit away from hedges, get it on your side of the fence, whatever, but I think flicking the lamp only works fairly close in because the beam is brighter/tighter. I find that works too, keep the beam between the rabbit and where it want's to run while walking up. Quote Link to post
huntingalltheway 2
Ive seen some people twirl the lamp when callin foxes. IMO it dont work. Who they think they are Derren feckin brown tryin to hypnotize the fox population. All it does is wind the dogs up an make you look daft. i flick the rabbits off fences and when running back at me i circle the lamp which seems to help as the rabbit slows down and i know this off topic but you can stunn fish in pools and lakes in the shallows by twirling the lamp in cycles it puts the fish off and you can grab them out with your hands. so shows light can put things off Edited February 18, 2010 by huntingalltheway Quote Link to post
