Phantom 631
Hey guy's just a quickie this time. I bopped a big fat mother of a buck the other day on my paddock permission. Decided I was gonna leave it there, out of the reach of the foxes and slit his belly to use it for Corvid Bait. Had to chase up the doctors this morning for some more meds' then popped around to a mates for a couple of litres of fresh coffee and a natter. Got home had me lunch and deided to go out and try for the Big Black B@stards in the paddock. Got there, checked Zero, honed it by 2 clicks and pellet scuttling pellet at 30 yards or so Collected Uncle Buck from where I had him swinging in the wind took him to the 30 yard markers and slit his gut, shook the intestines etc out until they looked like something a Corvid would find appealing then stuck out my Carrion Crow Decoy to keep a watchful eye over the free meal. Climbed under my poncho's and waited, gave a couple of shakes of the pellets in the tictac box and I could hear Maggies chattering, one even flew over, but decided against landing Then I remembered I had my Crow Caller in my pocket, so gave a few Caw's on that. Not a fecking sign of a corvid of any description Only stayed out for 2 hours and although I found it nice and relaxing, I only took 4 shots one 3 was into the target to Zero, and one was to empty the gun in the ground before packing away. Packed uncle buck into a carrier bag, and fitted his entrails back into his belly. Hung him back up for tomorrow I'm hoping to get back out there early tomorrow and try then. I'm gonna bag me a Corvid by the end of the week. Oh Yes. Wish me look Phantom Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
Sounds like they clever little gits can see you coming, once they've seen you, your rabbit will turn to dust before they touch it, If you can get there before it gets light and chuck it out, then get under cover before it gets light you will have more of a chance. Good luck Phantom Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Phantom. It was proberbly due to the couple of liters of fresh coffee. In and out of that poncho for a quick Pizz or three. Good luck for next time. ATB. Bill. Quote Link to post
bedrock 16
Have you got any magpie deeks mate? Try one instead. They are less intimidating to the magpies and crows will also come to them. Quote Link to post

Lee85 44
i had luck using a magpie decoy over a slit open rabbit, it got a magpie and once that was shot the crows got interested and I got one of them, I also had the magpie call on my mobile as an mp3 and gave that a play or two. Unfortunatley I havent had much luck since but havent gave it a good crack of the whip to be honest, while ago now, that was my setup: Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
Thanks guy's for the replies I did get up Davy but it was after 09:00 But after not sleeping since getting up last saturday morning til midnight last night, my body told me to 'stay asleep'. The Zopiclone I got from the Doc's made sure I got to sleep before I started hallucinating So got back to the paddock again at about 14:30 today nothing in sight. Set up the hide and gun, stuck the bunny back out Put up the Crow Deek and one Maggie Deek then put another Maggie Deek in the tree just above my hide. About 15:30 I looked around the field and nearly had a fit. A large Black mass was crouched by a warren entrance I've seen pure black bunnies in a field across the main road, but not here. It was about 40 yards and I was gonna keep and preserve this fur Slowly brought the gun around and put the crosshairs on the mass. I waited about a minute and it hadn't raised its head so a little squeek from me brought its head up, I had already taken up the 1st stage and had my finger ready for the shot As it brought its head up, I moved the crosshairs to between its ears and suddenly realised they were awful short and pointed F k me, it was a bloody CAT :wallbash: it was so close to being a 'was a cat' Stayed there until 17:00 as the light fade fast, saw a kit run from the warrens to my right, but it vanished before I got my gun turned towards it. Then as I was leaving, saw a nominal size bunny jump out of a warren just in front of me, copped a glimps of me, turned and vanished back the wayit had come!
