robbo 874
ey up mate. me missus and kids walked it a few years ago. it was stinking hot when we set off up so we was in shorts and t-shirts but ihad bottoms and jumpers in a rucksack. we were grateful for these when we got near top as it was brass monkeys up there. you will need some good grip on your footwear as rockss on path are really polished by all walkers. we took loads of photos on way up on youngest lads camera and made the mistake of letting him carry it on way back down. got about 500 yards from bottom and he dropped it smashed it open so no piccies so hold onto your camera tightly. hope you enjoy it. views are stunning. mushroom 14,126
Stick to the route you choose don't deviate It can be dangerous up there at the best of times. I've been up there twice. Stayed at the Fort William Travel lodge (cheap) next to the super market (think it was Tesco's). Get an early start, best to get to the base just before day break at that time of year then you'll have a good 12 - 13 hours of day maybe a bit more. If your doing it alone make sure you let someone know where you are going and let them know WHEN you return. Take all the usual things for mountaineering; food, drink (hot and cold), compass, map, torch or headlamp, extra warm clothing (it will be perishing up there in March), a watch, a Whistle, at the very least a basic first aid kit, a couple of choccie bars and some boiled sweets or something sweet and energy rich. If you can it's worth purchasing a survival bag and or a thermal reflective blanket these can not only save your life but also someone elses if the need arises. Make sure you know the sunrise/sunset times this is a must you DON'T want to be stranded up there in the dark. Enjoy it mate if you get the right day it's breathtaking in more ways than one Wear proper clothing and footware "There's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong sort of clothes"
tillylamp 1,938
hi bairn, my mate and i walked to the top many years ago,we stoped every now and then for a rest but overall its a pretty kind walk, like robbo said we did the same,it was in the summer and it was quite warm at the start,we were in jeans and t shirts, by time we got to the top we were freezing,it was freezing fog and snow balls the size of cars, so take the right clothing with you!!! but it was well worth it, the views are breath taking, and the experience. have fun and enjoy. tillylamp

Pub quiz... How many lakes are there in the lake district??????? A gold star to the person who gets it right
