dogs-n-natives 1,182
Out with the terriers and for a mooch about on a small shoot today, was hoping to take the lurchers along, but the snow has frozen solid and its just too risky it was -6 last night, and the other night the vehicle read -13 over the hill... in some areas the snow is a good 8 inchs and deeper in the drifts, the crust is like glass and its obvious that it could injure even good feet on a lurcher.... so its spaniels and terriers only today, hopefully we will find old charlie tucked into the cover or to ground and make the landowner happy... as he has been avoiding the lamp and snares for some time now. Whats the conditions like in other areas? all the best DnN Quote Link to post

Gone from floods to snow now freezing rock hard, haven't had a decent day for weeks, 2010 sees a big thaw ha bloody hope so, apart from an occasional mooch, to hard to run the dogs. bullmastiff 615
Nothing but rain, rain and more rain down here in the South-West. The grounds saturated and floods have started already and it's still raining. We only had a very light dusting of snow before xmas but had several hard frosts. Took the dogs out to a favourite spot for a few hours this morning, it was 3ºc but with a North-east wind and the rain it felt more like -20! Got soaked through to the skin, and had to strip off to my Boxers in the car to try and get warm again. Still showed the pups coat is decent though, started to dry her off and found she was still dry near her skin. Quote Link to post
longdog13 36
Defrosted well here, just wet and soft, sorry, i was thinking of something else then. the weather is fine for running down here at the mo. even at night the frost isn't too hard. Quote Link to post
Helen 2
Ground frozen here lots of sharp ice around, I've been doing some tracking every day gone about a mile or so a day with each dog I hide three lots of food along the track to keep them interested. It really tires them out using their noses. Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Sounds like different conditions up and down the country...you lot with the wet stuff can count yourselves lucky i suppose lol, as ive just looked at the met office website and the next 15 days in the north east hill ground is frosts and snow lurchers going to be bouncing off the walls soon like! Hunting invites down south... more than welcome Quote Link to post
stroller 341
We were out with the ferrets today, couldnt take a dog as the snow is still frozen and like glass in places, rabbits were bolting very well considering the noise the crunching snow made as we set the nets. got half a dozen missed a couple but packed in due to lack of light and freezing cold.
