Day Seven.

Recommended Posts

Got up a little later today after a few drinks last night watching the Haye fight. On our way onto the land, we stumbled upon a couple of the "just out for a walk crew" 2 chaps, one beddy whippet type netting up on there walk.

Sounds like they might have had permission from another farm we have permission on, they didnt on the land they were just "walking on" which is a long way away from the land they reckoned to be on. Old feller told them to move on, which they did, but way off in the distance, ferreted the odd warren on there way off. Pricks.

To be honest, the dog they had could not catch a cold after we watched it run, I would be surprised if it caught a rabbit, plus never saw any action when they ferreted. These are probably the same clowns that have caused the feral ferret problem.

Anybody know these two and where they are from?

Landowner and local police today have told us to report to them of any poaching going on, looks like they are getting serious at last, can see a few vehicles getting confiscated pretty soon.

Anyway, we have a new tool/toy to help things along.

Had to splash out a bit! But its the only way to get a few more years out of the old chap, walking all that way fecks him up bigtime.

Had the two young dogs again, split them up for a while this morning, they are doing better, with the faults slowly getting ironed out with the work. Then together later on. They nailed almost everything with some commited running on the slopes. Even throwing themselves at the rabbits on the kill, and seeing them doing somersaults as they struck at full speed, skidding off. Only a matter of time before one of these gets a serious injury.

If i get the time i'm going to start to film them, should be good to watch.

Started off where we left off yesterday, bit of a drag getting there with the bike and trailer, but a bit easier than yomping.

The slopes are really steep, and difficult to stand on, but they hold rabbits.

Turned my back for 2 seconds, and find the old feller has found a new way to get down the hill fast!

If you can look closely, you can see the trail of a daft 70 yr old man, travelling at pace, downhill over 20 yrds in 2 seconds!

I nearly died laughing, waterproofs and grassy slopes dont mix! :clapper:

Took out four ferrets today, 2 albino jills from 2008 breeding and two hobs, one of 2008 breeding a big fast poley, and the albino Billy Bob the Fang from 2007 breeding. (as his brother a little small for a hob, but makes up for it in determination!)

The jills worked in the morning, no messing at all, but got dragged around all over the place whilst they did their dirty work, no good when you have to dig 4 ft on the first hit!

They did well though, some strong coney in those holes, and did not leave untill the holes were empty.

Worked the boys in the afternoon, had forgot how lethal the big poleys are. Put in poley, take out locater, dig within minutes or the rabbit is lost.

These fellers get me in all sorts of trouble in no time!

4ft dig on his first outing of the year noooooooooo!

Another one of his exploits shortly afterwards.

Good day though, weather got better, and came off with 34 rabbits.

Handy is what they are Para, good but nothing special yet. Both have faults, but they have a bit of promise which makes you want to watch them more and more.

They are lurcher crosses, all from collie grey mating overs a few generations. Who can tell for sure whats in them? The work will make the dogs though, shame its only for 6 months of the year!
