RIGHT CHAPS EXCUSE MY IGNORANCE AND THIS MAY BE A REAL DUMB QUESTION, BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOURE BARREL IS ON ITS WAY OUT? ATB MARK one way is to borescope the barrel and see the damage done, 2) you will notice a drop off in accuracy of a proven round, really bad you will see the bullet tumble rather than rotate.... you'll see a distinct long shape rather than a clean circle were the bullet impacted... Dan Newcombe 58
6mm BR is worth a look for your use. Does everything that the .243 does but with less powder, recoil and noise. Its the current must have. But you would have to re load and buy brass which is a bit of a pain. Just a thought, the .243 is also perfect for your needs though. Dan Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
What are the energy figures like if you compare a 6mm BR and a .243? Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
i would have it 243 ai Quote Link to post

RicW 67
What are the energy figures like if you compare a 6mm BR and a .243? 75 gr Hornady in 243 3447 fps 1979 ft.lbft in 6mmbr 3200 fps 1884 ft.lbft Not really relevant for stalking but the 6mmbr will put 25 rounds in a 4 inch group at 1000yards RicW Quote Link to post
Dan Newcombe 58
I have heard a lot about the 6mm br being inherently accurate. The previous statement might not be relevant but its nice to know! Those energy diffences are negligable For the actualy work i would suggest also that Rhino Rifles (do a google search) are worth a close look. They are very reasonable prices and very knowledgeable. If you ask them their input they will give you good, impartial advice (that actually led to them loosing a job i was thinking about). Top blokes Dan Quote Link to post
v-max 2
Hi Dave keep the 243cal its good/proven round & you have the gear to reload it as brass can cost £60-£100 for 100 in Lapua. As for a tube the archer are good hard barrels & nice to clean same with pac-nor but there is many to choose from. When you get it done get your remmy blue printed at the same time but watch as there are many variations of a blue print so look into it wizely call me for a chat if you have any questions ATB v-max. Guest remmy
243 its sorted going down the archer line 20" semi sporter with a jewel trigger bedded and a full blue printed action and see what that does. Quote Link to post
