never fished for them but always took it that a heavy version of a coarse float setup was the job, bread as bait in harbours, or worms. If it's a harbour you are fishing watch for the shoals patrolling a route. Saw a youngster spinning in a harbour one day, the mullet were swimming a route and he flicked the spinner through the shoal when they passed.

Thibk you can groundbait for them too, onion sack filled with breadcrumb and fish guts oil etc and tie a ope to the sack and throw it in near you and flot the bait through it. This would work from rocks or harbour.

Look into what natural bait is around, harbours have boats throwing table scraps etc in so anything goes.

Think you need to take into account for the soft mouths, hooks will pull out quickly. Sharp hooks and maybe a long shank will help. play easily so you don't lose it. Good luck and have fun.

4 of us went to eire six years ago , took us two & half hours of throwing 4 loaves of bread in, to catch 1 mullet each used small coarse hooks cant remember what size sorry , but it was worth the effort had a good fight off a 2 lb fish good luck

Alright mate i used to fish for them quite a bit when i was younger! if ya gonna be fishing from a pier use a short rod and fish close to the groins under the pier and used about a size 8 e.s.p raptor t6 carp hook with a little piece of ragworm to match the size of the hook! you've gotta hold ya rod all the time if you feel any slight bumps like bites wait for it to happen again if it doesn't hook its self give ya reel a half a turn and sometimes not always though they snatch the bait also if ya fishing snaggy areas use a strong mono and leader! clear lines are best i've found! also ya will need a drop net! if theres any mussles on the pier around you i usually smash a few and chuck them in for extra attractor! if ya fishing from an estuary the float method will defo be better with either bread or ragworm or maddies (tiny ragworms) they are proper good for them! hope this helps mate and good luck whatever method you end up doing and remember get some piccy's up if you have any joy!!
