Mars 42
I`me all for microchipping, though i do think it has it`s failings.. I.E. i think all animals should be routinely scanned on any visit to a vets, and details checked against the details given, perhaps it should even be compulsory when purchasing an animal & to change the details if you sell the animal on.. One example i could give is, someone i knew had a 12 year old cat, this cat had come to her as a stray, i.e. the cat adopted her as they tend to do, this cat had had various health problems over the years, yet it was only recently that it was scanned and a microchip was found, even though she`d had the cat for around 12 years and as i`ve already said it had had some health problems in that time and had ample opportunity to be scanned... Yis Mars...
runforyourlife 361
I should imagine that everyone thinks chipping is a good thing, there is no reason for it to be bad. If you go to your local pet store, they usually do chipping for free when a vet visits, usually twice a year.
lurchergrrl 1,441
If chipping were routine at all vets and pounds then it would make a huge difference to a lot of owners who's pets have been lost or stolen. In my mind it should be mandatory. The only downside to chipping is that a lot of pounds/wardens etc don't have the right equipment to scan or just plain can't be arsed with it. Mine are always chipped. They'll be tattoo'd soon as well - in the eyes of the law a tattoo is proof of ownership, a microchip is not. But, if you lose your mutt, you stand a much better chance of getting it back when it's been chipped. So it's a few quid very well spent.
