By all means continue with the socialisation business,...it is CRITICAL.... BUT,..PROTECT your young'un from divi worthless curs... I have experienced the carnage that an unsocialized mutt can do to a VALUABLE hunting dog... Hopefully the mental damage to your tyro is not of a permanent nature,.... Never trust folk who say to you that after their jukel has waded into your puppy ,.'Oh,.Rebel/Tyson/Rocky has never done that before'..... Lift your pup out of their way,..stand close to these bullies and place your boots on their feet,...make them step back from you....Be the man... Now get to it,.and walk tall for your youngster.... As a consequence he will attack any Boxer now that come near him. .. so I guess he is mentaly scarred by these early attacks. I have another pup on the go now, but these days I carry a stick, I usually fine a prod with the stick lets any unruly mutt know that we are not to be messed with. gnasher16 29,664 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Share Posted June 15, 2009 Never feel embarsassed about your dog getting attacked its the dickhead who owns a dog thats willing to attack a little pup that needs to be embarassed......bad experiences can set a young pup back no matter what breed they are....if i was you id keep your pup away from other dogs for a few weeks,walk him in places your unlikely to come across other dogs......build his confidence back up.......so far you have been unlucky but keep putting the dog in that same situation and you will ruin him....you wouldnt allow your 7 year old son to keep getting bullied would you,you would avoid situations as its hard to tell a 7 year old child to stand up for themself...get my drift ? shepp 2,285 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Share Posted June 15, 2009 Some Joe Dakki down my local park has a german shepherd and a rottie and as with most of those twats he's got no idea. I imagine they were bought to guard the back of his shop and never left it untill they were over a year old, thus they are completely un-socialised. Well they charge into any dog that comes near the section of the park he runs them on, one thing i did notice one time was when they were about to charge my way and into my then pup. I lifted my heavy stick above my head ready to brain them, well that labour voter was on his dogs in a flash and they were leaded untill i had passed. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

anagallis_arvensis 2 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Share Posted June 15, 2009 I'd imagine you must have been unlucky, my pup has only had one dog show any agression towards it (met that dog again the other day and even though she's only 5 months old she backed the f****r up when it came running this time), other than the old growl when shes gone too far. Try and keep the dog near to you when you see another dog, mine will come over to me when she gets worried by an unfamilar dog anyway. T78 4 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Share Posted June 16, 2009 both my adult lurchers are totally non dog agressive(just how i like it!) and yet when im out and i see other dog walkers,i put them on the leads.alwys better to be safe than sorry. and if people with agressive/unpredictable dogs haven't got the manners to do the same and another dog got hold of mine,i'd have no worries "persuading" it otherwise.small village or not! But on one of his first outings he got attacked by a springer spaniel that someone had no control over and mine didnt fight back but just came running back, then a weimaraner bitch took a disliking to him and that didnt end well. Now he is about 29 1/2" and just tries to kill both of these breeds without hesitation, he can be such a brute. But I dont get embarrassed, the first times when he was attacked I was just very very very pissed off with the people for allowing it to happen and for scaring him and now i just explin and most folk understand and the ones that dont can just piss off. Ofcourse I got the 'Oh but he has never done that before' my response 'well he has now and he does again and it wont end well madame'. I would just keep her close when you think either the people or the dogs are iffy. Take a toy with her so she is a bit more focused on the toy than the dogs. Just be prepared for the day when she gets tired of it, if im right a nasty lurcher is not a dog you want to get on the wrong side of.
