can anyone tell me is mutton any good as feeding for dogs?

Year ago me da who was a keeper would often get fallen sheep, dig a hole, then go back a few weeks later and dig part of it up feed the dogs, all working dogs, never ill, no vets, so it speaks for itself.

Before anyone starts getting funny and saying why bury it, maybe because there was no electric then.

So Dev, yes, but these dogs also had the majority of game to eat as well.

It's good stuff, especially if it's free, and can be a very useful part of balenced diet. It can be a fatty meat but if used, as above, in conjunction with low fat game such as rabbit it will balence out well. A few biscuits and veg and you have the makings of a good diet.

I used to collect sick and fallen sheep years ago and fed them to the dogs, they ate it for a few years no bother. The only bother was when 1 got jammed in the side entrance of the house and the neighbour came to see what was going on.She saw me siting on a dead sheep sweating like a marathon runner, funny at the time......NOT

dev if your getting meat, ie cow meat , hores meat, lamb, or goat, from the knackers yard, make sure you find out if the animal died naturally or was shot , if it has been put to sleep by injection stay well away , i have alot of horse, cow, lamb meat from the knackers yard , i always ask how it came in and how it was killed .

i had a mate who gave his dogs horse meat that was injected and they died, it might have been just a one off mate but dont risk it .
