  1. Hi Why on earth would you muzzle a ferret. Poor thing. A ferrets needs all the weapons it can muster when going down a rabbit hole. In my opinion if a ferret can not be handled with ease when ferreting then it is dangerous thing especially when you employ staff. You need to have ferrets that you feel confident with. Chasing ferrets is not the game I like to play especially if they are taking chucks out of your hands. My staff wouldn't have it either. Sound like you need to spend more time with this particular animal. If its a young ferret handling will get them through the ni
  2. Hi Heres my top tip, If you wear the same T shirt all the time it soon gets f*****d, but it you only wear the same T shirt now and a aqain it will last for ages. I uses my hemp nets in rings of 10, forty to a bag. once clean and dry they are put into a bag. I rotate several bags of nets and at the end of the season re dip and repair nets as required. This way they last a long time. regards Roger P.S If you use hemp nets then you had better get it into your head that nets will get damaged over time especially if you use them alot. Unfortunately client don't see these costs,
  3. That is a lovely looking rough coat you have there. Regards Roger. Is that a boy or girl?
  4. Well Mr beddiwhuppet, I like the look of all of these dogs. Hopefully I will be getting a rough coat brindle. I will obviously post pisc of the pup as and when one arrives from the stalk. Regards Roger. I'm no expert when it comes to lurchers always had springers in the past. Hopefully some of the training will be similar. I bought Purdies Progress to get a few pointer and it was well worth the watch. When I look at the pic of that dog I can see collie in the face and a whippet shaped head and the back end looks like a greyhound. Really looking forwards to getting the pup.
  5. The reason why I say 4oz is because I use a trammel (Dark Green)net attached to nylon net (Pale Green) to stop the bag blowing down the head and foot lines and this is for 2 main reasons. In a cross wind it stop the net fauling the drop pins and also mean rabbit hold better in the net. As requested add a few pics again. The main reasons for 4oz is weight it is lighter. The drop poles need to be quite far apart so the rabbit get confidence to pass so under it. Head and foot lines need to be tight with as little sag as possible so that the drop mechanism works over distance.
  6. It's sounds to me that the 170 is perefered by several of you chap. It does look much more portable and as I will only be using it on rabbit i'm not that sure i need a blitz. Regards Roger.
  7. Thanks for you opinon. Seems to be the one to get. Regards Roger.
  8. Hi Intrested to know what yoru thoughts are regarding buying the Blitz 800m Beam lamp. The standard model seems to be a reasonable price as far as i can tell. Would you bother with the viable power model or do you think its abit too expensive or do you think it is necessary to have one??? Regards Roger
  9. Here is a pic as requested showing the detail of the drop part of the dropnet. I use 1 1/2" rings welded to bolt and attach with washers and bolts to make the drop arms. The idea of the heavy systems is that it is stable and you can drop really long nets with the system. Hope this help. I would recommend a light net i have used 6oz but am think of using 4oz. 1inch water pipe would be about right 8ft long.
  10. Thats why i don't use it too often. It heavy work to setup but does have it uses. Somebody on here uses a lightweight wooden version. Pic of the drop arms and bobbins
  11. There are some threads on here Good luck. Oh look that pale green netting again!!!
  12. Hi The colour you have bought your net in will make no difference at all. Rabbits don't see colours as we do. They can only see shade ie light and dark thats why my hemp nets are dipped. I think that white and black are no nos though. Their eyes are more in tune to see movement not colour as far as i'm aware. Regards Roger.

    How long?

About an hour to knit an 18 by 20 net, or 4foot net. Long net 50yd about six weeks on a couple of hours a night basis. regards Roger.
  14. mine are 25" or around the 2foot mark Regards Roger
  15. Always a funny one i measure knot to knot but some perfer to measure the square pulled tight. I think it is better to measure as you would the mesh board but that's just me. Regards Roger
  16. Hi I too make hemp long nets I have in the past made them with 5Ply which is ok when ferreting however i have just finished a 4ply net which is much more user friendly and easier to work with at night. I think that 14 meshs is too wide thats just me thought. I make all to them 12 meshes wide. 2 1/4 knot to knot. If you are planning to make 2inch nets then 14 meshes would be better to maintain the depth/ belly of the net. I think that making a net is a personal thing really it is very much down to yourself to choose the material/ whether to add a salvage and the number of mesh and of c

    practice

A slack line over rough ground is never a bad thing!!!
  19. The first set of nets i made where with a purse net kits which makes about 12 nets, that was sometime back mind. Start with hemp because you don't have to double knot it which make life alot easier when your starting out. The kit comes with instructions but i am sure there will be already some good threads on here to start. I would use the kit to start because you will make some really crap nets in the beginning and once you are making nets that you are happy with start sourcing you materials. Top tip, then to buy net making materials in bulk so that you are using the same materials al

Mucker, The rabbits will just bounce of that net. You need to shorten your long net. Your pegs are better length than the one you had before. Take note of molecatches net. Lots of bag in the net. Regards Roger. If its a shop bought net of 50yds it should be shorten to say 35 yds at a guess. Make most of my nets so i would what you can get away with.
  21. Foxshot but i make new cages and just use there plastic bits. They are much better in my opinion. Regards Roger.
  22. Looking at the pic of your mesh board it does look a bit sh*t, But thats only my opinion, Glad you sorted your net out though Regards Roger.
  23. Like the head and foot lines, there very pink!!! Regards Roger.
  24. [HAVE SENT YOU A pm ON PEGS HERE IS A PIC OF HOW I ATTACH THE HEAD LINE TO THE PEGS REGARDS ROGER
  25. If i was starting out, Find someone thats is close to you that has ferrets. Pick there Brain, If you can't find someone. Visit the local ferret resue, Pick there brain. Read a couple of books to fill in the gaps, Understand the sex bit, Make a house to acommidate more than one ferret because they like to be together most of the time. Then and only then Get some ferrets. Regards Roger. Get some kits and handle them often and then the rest is a piece of p**S. They are not cheap they cost to time and money my ferrets have to earn there living at the end of they day.
