  1. To true dogs-n-native, Best one i have seen is a couple of farmers in Norffolk have made up there own home made rodenators, and i reckon there will be a death caused by one of these noisy f**king things it only a matter of time. regards roger
  2. Hi All It is the topic that is talked about quite often when visiting sites, but i don't worry too much about them given the stories i have heard like conservatory windows been blown out people getting burnt And the farmers that have had work done in the last few years have looked at other methods of rabbit control given that they don't think they are that good as they are made out to be HARD SELL. I feel happy that they still call on the traditional methods so why be mad about it other than the conservation aspect of course. regards Roger
  3. Hi All If you have a ferret that bites while putting collars on you need handle themmore confidentley however you spell it. Some ferrets get a bit like this if they know you are a bit twitchy with them. My opinion is more handling on a daily basis and practice putting collars on even when your not going ferreting to build up your and your ferrets confidence is a good idea. Casing point so of the people i work with though good at ferreting are still shit a collaring up, and i get landed with the job everytime with excuse like that one bites me or i don't know whether i have put the
  4. Thanks for your reply Alex He is a lurcher X. I will try your tip many thanks regards Roger.
  5. Hi All, I have an 11month old pup that i'm quite proud of. I confess that my training is not the best in the world and know that there are several threads on the subject. He has nailed a Myxi rabbit during the day time and i am keeping his confidence up by ferreting he jumps the nets and is ok with commands. My question is though he is retreiving a dummy to hand he still runs wide on an open field. I keep taking him back to a now corridor to try correct this. you thoughts and is there anything else i can try to get to retreive to an open area. Regards Roger
  6. I asked Vicky for a small lurcher for ferreting with no bull in it. He is a Collie /whippet / deerhound / grey hound cross that is 24" to the shoulder. Regards Roger
  7. Hi I make my purse nets 18wide by 20 deep with 2" mesh board. Regard Roger
  8. You are right it would be heavy at 25 to 50yd, but these nets are supposed to be short in this style 3 to 5 yd tops. They are mean;t to be placed on runs in hard to reach places. The nets are heavy weight to deal with cover. In my opinion longer trammels really only need a light weight nylon small mesh or it would be heavy. 4 oz is what i would use on a longer trammel. regards Roger. P.S most of my kit is carried to site in a 4X4 or quad and trailer so weight is not really problem. See your point though.
  9. Hi All, Just finished a big job up in Norfolk but had 2 nets damaged in two days, there is nothing worse than having one of your hand made longnets damaged. So it worth taking some time to practice your repairs, here where one of the little blitters hit. Regards roger
  10. Here is another pic if any one is intrested, regards Roger
  11. Hi Rew. He is one of Vicky's dogs. He is 11months at the moment, is just doing somelight ferreting work and been trained for the lamp. regards Roger.
  12. Whats that made from Roger? Its made from spun bog standard green heavy spun nylon square 9" mesh and a 2" dipped 5ply hemp bomb proof and is a double trammel so the rabbits get boxed in both directions Here it is packed away. regards Roger
  13. Hi gemmi Though I would show you a pic of Murphy, he is now on his fourth outting with the ferrets and really is show promise. Thanks Vicky Regards Roger
  14. Hi Ianrob hope all is well, I haven't put any picks on so heres a pic of one of my 3yd babies Regards Roger P.S it not pull tight so it sagging in the middle sorry the pic not brilliant.
  15. Hi All Trammel nets are great pieces of kit to have old or new doesn't really matter to me, My point is not about how long they are but how short they can be. Some trammels are only made 2 to 3 yards in length so that they can be used through hedges or at the bottom of ditches and hold the rabbits well. I my opinion at 3 yd nylon net in a ditch would not be as effective as one of my hemp trammels. No arguements here i hope....... They have there uses, the size of the meshs is another point in the spring time you can use a trammel with a smaller mesh and it gives you chance to hold
  16. Hi Tomo, I use WF Fountain too it's about £700 per annum. He cover the pest control industry regards Roger
  17. Hi All I have changed all my collars for the MK3M and they work fine for me. Everyones looking at the bad points so much these days about everything must be the crunch. They do have advantages like turning on and off while on the ferret. One massive advantage when using lots of ferrets. Save on batteries. They have a bigger battery and i think they last a lot longer. They screw together so i think they will be less likely to go down due to your ferret taking a dip. Leather collars, smooth surfaces easier to clean do i need to go on!!!!!!!!!!! There are lots of threads sayi8ng t
  18. Thats just what need to know thanks. The waste thing look clumbersome to me i think a back pack is the way forward regards Roger.
  19. Just intrested to know, what battery packs you used with a striker!!! Do you used shoulder or waste pack and what AMPs do you prefer when taking a lurcher out at night. Regards Roger
  20. Once again Rolfe a good call. Will be setting about 250 to 350 along a motor way embankment with heavy traffic. Regards Roger
  21. I know that the number of snares is governed by the area you have to cover. But on average how many snares do you guys put out. And how long to you leave them before you move on to new pastures Regards Roger
  22. Thanks all for your input, I still like 4 strand snares over 6, they just seem too thick for my liking. I have caught well on 4 but seem to struggle to reshape them after they have caught so i just tend to replace the snares, I have a long section of motorway to do so i have been making a load up and have to say i don't like making six stand ones, but thats just me. Regards Roger.
  23. Thanks Rolfe, And your reason why 6 stand everytime. it's worth knowing regards Roger
