I've run out of likes, but love this man....

Hi Simon In my new place I'm thinking of improving my backstops to show the neighbours, a little more visually, that all saftey concerns are being catered for. I was thinking of building a 2-row wall of staw bails - say 3 bails high and 4 along, with a 5mm plyboard in the middle of the 2 rows, towards the bottom of my garden. Does this sound OK to you? Should be able to buy the straw from farmers and the wood from B&Q?

Do tell, I'll put the kettle on.....

Hi Neil Yeah, I've heard stories. One is that a guy is going to court soon because his empty magazine was in the gun when they stopped him in his car. Note to everyone who might not know. If you own a PCP, never leave the magazine in it when its in its sleeve and in transit, even though its empty. In the BASC magazines it often promotes strong relations with the police....but I reckon it must vary around the country.

Thanks to all for the replies, some interesting stories there and food for thought. In my instance in the OP I was pleased I managed to keep my fist out of his face and I was proud of the way I handled it, and him. I was firm, but fair. Respectful, but not having any of it. He was under no illusion i knew my law, but he was so full of shit. I also said that if he continuued to be a problem, I'd contact one of the many associations I'm a member of, who have legal representation and look after law-abiding shooters (not sure how true that really was.....but hey, he was making it up as he

Apologies for the length of this, but here goes; The other day I was chatting to a friend and recounting an experience I'd had with a neighbour some time ago when I lived in another place - who was not happy about me shooting airguns in my garden and threatened me with the Rozzers. What was interesting was his utter lack of understanding for airguns and the law. If I shoot in the garden, its target practice and zero checking only, with backstops and pellet catchers. I can ensure that my pellets do not leave my boundary (as I also shoot downwards, and if i miss, it just hits the backst

Best Zero Range For Both .177 And .22
Dr B replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hi james Sorry to hear about your condition. Yes, I think there is an easy way to calculate a number that you can use. On average, there are 2.5ft to a single step and there are 3ft to a yard. Would you say your average step is say, half this due to your limp? If so, simply double the number of steps you need to make the same yards outlined above. Make sense? So, your step, in your case could be 1.25ft. So, based on the numbers above, the standard units say, its 25 steps to mark out 20yds. For you, if your steps were half that of the standard units, then its 50 steps for 20yds. -
Yeah Rez.....I may or may not also know how to tickle fish.....'cough'......which makes me quite different to my colleagues... You can take the boy out of the north, but not the north out of the boy....

There is no 'better' calibre. Matching the merits of the calibre to your shooting style is important. I personally prefer .22 for hunting for all the reasons given above. However, I would still snap your hand off if you were giving away a high-quality .177. On a purely personal note, I enjoy hunting and stalking my quarry. That means, I get as close as I can and I enjoy that aspect of my fieldcraft. So I also rarely take anything on beyond 35yds. My guns are accurate out to 50-60yds but I'm not. My old dad could shoot out to 50yds in .22 no problem, but I cant. Some of you guy

Best Zero Range For Both .177 And .22
Dr B replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Wonderful thread, I guess we all worked out our zero ranges over the years by our own trial and error, but nice to know that computers probably back that up A slightly tangential thing, is how you are measuring the distance. I dont have a distance wheel for mapping exact yds. When plinking, I step / stride it out as I suspect most of you do. A while ago i realised some of my estimates were incorrect. Only slightly so, but enough. So here are some conversions that may well be useful. So here is a brief guide to how 'steps' convert into 'yards'. Its true it will be 'slightly' dif -
Hey Simon / Pianoman Thanks for the interesing post, I reckon for you, the HW80 has an important legacy in the world of airgunning. I have owned one, and loved it straight out of the box. It is simplicity itself. No bells, no whistles - killing machine. For me, the AAs have the edge in the springer world now, but the HW80 and the 77 are like the Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton of airguns. Huge influence on the modern stuff! Great posts here guys.

Ha. Well. Your gonna have to believe me mate. To be honest, I actually spent 2 1/2 hours cutting out a rapid, that isn't mine... and adding the pigeons and grass in... in photoshop. Rez It takes less than 60seconds to photoshop it....trust me...
