I've heard lots of people rave about the 7, including Rez, so I reckon there must be something good to that baby. The magazine on the AAs is simplicity itself, no real faff as far as I'm aware - you just load and go. When in the field I have separate mags loaded up and ready to swap. I dont like mucking around in the cold loading up pellets into mags when sat in the freezing woods etc. So buy a spare mag whatever you get! HW or AA - excellent gear. The rest is down to you - but if you then cant hit a barn door - you cant blame the equipment!

Hi David Oh yes, absolutely. I reckon if you know about regulators, you probably know about sweetspots anyway, but yes.
-
Well, I've never owned one (a HW100) myself, but they are very 'hot' at the moment and I know lots here use them and rate them highly. Great manufacturer so you should be more than OK with than make / model. Scopes, a really cheap but excellent range are the Nikon range. Best glass out there, very clear, lots of light. I'm not a fan of the recticle style in them, but again, that's personal. Other than that, the Hawke range are really good and will get you going and their Panorama IR / EV range is very good IMO. I'm sure others have their views on other scopes. I'm a mill-dot fan, bu

hahahaha yeah man, "you had to be there"......A 7 eh? Hmmmmmm. Lovely stuff. Never heard a bad word about them.

Well put. I dont have too much of a problem throwing the slinged gun on my shoulder, but yes, if not carfeul the locking arm cracks open - but its small potatoes for me and i just click it back or take a little more care throwing it on. Its probably time for a version IV with all these improvements.

Hey man, so venom tuned were really that good? I never got to shoot one. Its a crying shame the venom shop is no more. I've only heard great things.

I agree Rez, their day is over. Air Arms has seen to that. But 'back in the day' I'm sure you'd agree they were the dogs droopy bits (along with HW77)...everyone had one. Things have moved on and the HW80 has not. Its kind of the Lamborghini Countach of airguns. Dated, put will still pull your face off....... So it does not stand up to today's standards, but it has a legacy, a contribution to make to the field and the sport. Like an old drunk uncle at weddings? Puts a smile on yer face.

yeah....of course......

Is there an award on here for best post? If so, I'd like to nominate this one - its spot on (smilies aside!). Great conception of the reality of the situation on the whole. Great job Mark.

My interpretation is very different. I've got a few arses round here hanging in my trophy cabinet...... Is this the only forum that needs vasaline?

Its back up!

Mac you should get a tuned HW80. If I see a really good venom tuned one, I might be tempted back to my youth.

I've heard this about the PS lever (lots of people saying what you just said), but would the paint not flake off? Could you get it blued or something, or get something fabricated for it? I'm sure some springer tuners could do something. My TX is lovely, I lucked out with that as its a really hard hitting gun. Lovely trigger, walnut stock makes it a bit easier in the shoulder, and the carbine is less nose heavy. I like heavy springers, but not too heavy - they need to be balanced and the HC is....

Hi Zlinuk I'd definately give them both a go before parting with your hard earned cash. There is some excellent advice above. The difference is so small, its really down to the shooter. We all have our own preferences, but this is relative to ourselves and we, are not you. Whatever calibre you go for, get a good reliable make. Have you thought about the model / manufacturer? PCP or spring? Scope?

I love prosports....but came many years after the HW80. When I got my , my mate got a Theoben Sirocco (gas ram i think). Very pretty gun and very new technology at the time. I'd still have the though over that one.

Air arms, JSB exacts, Falcon accuracy plus (which may actually be JSBs), seem to be what a lot of people use in .22. .....there must be something in it..!
-
Thanks man So the 97 came later, yes? There were a few years I left airgunning and then returned. The 97 was not around when i left, but obviously has been for a while now. Whats better about it? I like my springers, but dont have any experience of shooting that one. What sets it apart for you?
-
OK, one for the old dogs, but hey, you young pups as well. Back in the day (1980s) the HW80 was the 'daddy' amongst hunters I knew (closely followed by the HW77) - there were no real PCPs back then (well not widely used). It was a rabbit killing machine. I owned one myself (.22), it was a fab break barrel. Mine was just a standard, 'out of the box' version but I have many happy memories of it. One of the first things I ever shot with it was a wild mink, a very satisfying 30yrd head shot. Dead. The gun was basic, but effective. Happy days. Anyway, I wondered how many people aroun

I have always tended to zero at 25-28yds (typically the latter). Thats for .22. It has just always seemed to be a good distance for the calibre. I'm sure there are subtle differences if you do the math on your power, and pellet. If you shoot a PCP, make sure you zero when in the sweetspot. If you set your scope up at 190 bar fill, you will become inaccurate after 10-20 shots or so as the power creeps up and so does your pellet.
-
Hey Tom Great post, I could not agree more, .22 for me all the way as well and for the same reasons. However, I know some guys can make a .177 a devastating machine, with the right pellet. I just think we are all lucky to be around at a time when we have some of the best engineered guns around. If you think the .22 vs .177 is a big debate, wait until we all start arguing with shotgunners.....

we live in hope, dont rush back..... Only kidding......take it easy
-
I thought you would never ask.....of course
-
Yeah, just tried it. Definately down. I'm sure its temporary.

Thanks Dave I'm not called Bob. My words dont mean much? I'm sure you feel that way - but your feelings dont make it true. Look, lets move on. Can we all move on? Group hug?
