  1. That's not how you asked. Or why you asked. Have the balls to stand by what you say. You are a digging expert and I bow to your greater knowledge. Hopefully I'll be able to get some great tips off of you and maybe one day be half the man you are.
  2. is this dog supposed to be working and if so what age is he? If you're referring to the lack of marks on the dog, bear in mind that he's a Russell.
  3. A deer will head for cover when it's chased. That's normally a block of woodland. If a deer could run through it then so could your dog. You'll be surprised at how quickly a fallow buck, with a full rack can get through a section of thick woodland. My dog would do more harm to himself when he followed them into a field of Maize than woodland.

  5. If you keep the same anchor point then shots up and down will hit higher than normal. If you anchor close to your eye the difference will be less pronounced than if you anchor in your cheek or on your jaw.
  6. And then you realise that hammer grip frames aren't as accurate as finger braced ones.
  7. These photos are courtesy of Blackstaff. She was only 10 months here.
  8. Maybe so Stopend but most of us keep them too ourselves and dont plaster them all over the www. them pics are totally legal about 34 years ago when he was a registered hunt servant Maybe so Stopend but most of us keep them too ourselves and dont plaster them all over the www. them pics are totally legal about 34 years ago when he was a registered hunt servant Maybe so Stopend but most of us keep them too ourselves and dont plaster them all over the www. them pics are totally legal about 34 years ago when he was a registered hunt servant I never said they were illegal, but imo th
  9. I can easily get 1000 shots out of a set of TBG. I've always wondered why people struggle to get so few shots out of them. Admittedly I don't spend hours shooting at targets, but my last two sets I've taken off because I thought they felt a bit tired and not because they'd snapped. As has been said, a clean cut with a sharp rotary cutter is essential.
  10. Shot placement is the most important thing. I try to head shoot most things but sometimes that's not possible. It's at times like that when you need to know what your ammo is capable of and then use it to your advantage. This woodie was only 10 yards away and feeding on the ground. I couldn't get a head shot as the long grass was obscuring it. I knew that the 10mm steel balls I had would get decent penetration with looped 1745's at that range. I took the broadside shot through the wing and the bird fell forward onto its face. The steel ball had gone straight throug
  11. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Revolve-Bearings-and-Mech-PT Get 10mm
  12. I've killed stuff with most ammo, including a mint imperial and a garden snail. Whatever you're most accurate with is the best. I like something to have a uniform weight and size. That way you can learn the trajectory for long shots. I use M10 hexnuts mostly. Occasionally I'll use a 10mm steel ball. When I shoot single 1745 tubes I use M 8 hexnuts. Matching your ammo to your bands is the most important thing.
  13. I think the point is, the name Jack Russell covers a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colours. The Parson name is a relatively new thing and not really in common use. It is used to add money to puppy prices. 25 years ago no one would have called my dog a Parson and even now she's referred to as a Russell by most.
  14. My leggy type clearing some stock fencing on the run. The top two lines of barbed wire are missing from this section of fence but she can clear it when it's in place.
  15. "Old school" Russells should be similar to what is now called a Parson. A dog that can run all day with hounds and still go to ground, Rev Russells ideal and what he strove to breed from Trump. The Queen Anne legged, prick eared, snipey head type are a later development. Parsons is a new term. Both types of dogs have been about for as long as I can remember we just called the Parson types Leggy Russells. Both will work if from the right parents and even show type Parsons can go to work. I prefer the leggier type, they are faster above ground and can get around a lot easier.
  16. They aren't the smallest but they can be easy for people to get decent accuracy out of. They're the grass roots of catty shooting and deserve respect. A barnett type with decent tubes and matched ammo can do anything that other catties can.
  17. It depends how big your pockets are!! ?
  18. Really?????????????????????? LOL!!!!!
  19. Get a Diablo, put Theraband black tubes on and away you go. I've got an old camo blackwidow with TBB tubes on it and a kangaroo leather pouch. It's a good hunting tool.
  20. I agree with your comments about unity and a few of the other bits but, you will give people ammo to use against you when your avatar photo is of a pair of steels!!! Being called Gamedog and using photos of matching paraphernalia isn't the best way of keeping a low profile!!
  21. My Russell will bush all day long with loads of speed, she flushes game to the gun, she will kill rats all day, she'll go to ground, but she won't retrieve. My springer bitch used to bush all day long with loads of speed, she flushed game to the gun, she was too soft mouth for rats, she was too big to go to ground, but would retrieve beautifully. It all depends on what you want from a dog. My terrier is more versatile for me. I just have to retrieve my own shot game or wrestle her for the shredded carcass!!!
  22. Just a local breeder, owns both parents and doesn't do much work at all. She's a very good ratter, has loads of pace, jumps stock fencing on the run, has a good nose and is sensible below ground. I don't think she'll be a mixer, but that suits me. She's got a big voice.
