  1. Not a gun dog but has produced some pretty special retrieves from water while out wildfowling and our licensed sawbill cull ....to see this little tyke retrieve a Canada goose on a big tide weighing nearly as much as him is something special and having that terrier mentality to never give up is what makes him achieve it ......he is as good a digging terrier as I’ve ever owned but has many uses
  2. This river I am ghillie on is the second beat from the sea so we are only a few miles from the mouth there were 7 cobbles netting in river when I was a kid and over 30 sets of fly nets along the beach north and south or the river mouth ....thousands of salmon were netted it was an industry and plenty wer caught on rod and line ....my beat had 1000 salmon caught by rod in a season .... those days are long gone we had 125 last season ....those were the days of the hatcheries they knew you can’t just keep taking
  3. You are right and they are against salmon fishers as they see them as the upper class ..... very much a class thing with the SNP

It’s not as simple as as just deepening pools with a machine as they will just fill with gravel over time .....we put In strategically placed croys that cause a turbulence behind them thus moving the gravel and deepening downstream and catching gravel at the front of the croy that’s travels from upstream .....these have to be well made out of huge boulders some weighing 2-3 ton and placed at the right angle it’s not just put them in and hope for the best there is a science to it . next season we will be working on stabilising the banks with tree planting and big rocks

SEPA....every thing we do we have to apply to SEPA ....and it’s there decision what we can and can’t do we have done a considerable amount of work under license at a Great cost improving the pools and banks for both fish and fisherman and it will be an ongoing process for a few years .

Don’t miss the oil industry one bit mate.....I’m working seven days a week dusk till dawn we have a 5 year plan to turn the place into something special....got a real passion for the place as it’s where I grew up so have some great memories here and the weeman has some life down here amongst some real people and getting to do things most get don’t get the oppertunity to do they say if you love your job you will never work again
  7. Rodney out of Rabs sister he is 5 months a really stylish looking hound just started doing some bits and pieces with him ...it’s great seeing a dog so young hunting up using his nose and going into point on larks in the stubble his sires line is known to be hard so this ones going to be challenge
  8. Duke who is now around 9 /10 months I watched his sire in the Scottish field trials..... what a dog and these lads have to be commended to get a dog to that standard ....had a bit of a set back when he was 4 months old I ran over him with my truck ...both wheels luckily the ground was soft but he suffered a shattered scapula he was in a cage for 6 weeks rested until it healed all seems good so far it’s amazing how young dogs heal ....probably the sharpest dog I’ve ever owned and he has been a joy and very easy to train he will probably be wasted with me as I will not bring him to his full pote
  9. Carrying a bit timber after a summer off this was taken before the season in August while doggin in pheasants
  10. Big Rab my main GWP that works as part of a team of another 3 his dam his sire and sister ....a very well made dog that has plenty of drive and will go all day very steady on point you could leave him go and have lunch and he would still be on point
  11. Seems to be the way all over the country we can only do what we can on the rivers to help but have very little control what goes on out at sea where imo the problem is

    Truck full

Yes Neil and they made a very good amount of themselves a real joy to watch
  13. My tuck full happy little bunch
  14. This year was as poor a salmon run as I’ve seen in near 30 years on the river ...imo we are seeing the effects of storm Frank and the damage it done to you fish and redds and I think next season will be worse but Mother Nature can heal itself and we will continue you do what we can on the river to help her my biggest fish from last season around 15lb what a scrap on light tackle
  15. The GWP adds a bit of drive and stamina their not as good a Pure GWP at what it does or a lab at what it does but they have their uses in the beating line on a grouse Moore

One vid from earlier this year
  17. You can only get out of a dog what is in it

  18. Had a mate and a few lads Fromm Essex up last weekend a nice mixed bag over the pointers .....should of had more ducks but all the ponds were frozen and a shortage of timberdick and snipe ...the lads saw some good dog work and plenty of sport great craic
  19. Plenty of them about up here in the Angus glens and no plenty other grouse lads use them in the beating line ...some point some don’t but that’s not what your after in this cross as for retrieving both breeds are natural retrievers. the ones I’ve seen are not as good as a pure lab or pointer at their jobs but are handy dogs but it like any dogs if you breeed with decent stock your chances of producing a decent animal increases. like I say not my cup of tea as I work pure GWP and labs but they do have a purpose
  20. A very mild day on the hill today compared to the sub zero temps and biting north wind of the past few weeks ....dropped this lass ....watched a stag chase hinds and roaring all day first time I’ve seen that a week before Christmas
